Falkirk Preview – Can Falkirk make it four straight wins since resuming games earlier this month?
Joint managers Lee Miller and David McCracken are heading towards achieving their objective of leading Falkirk back to the Championship in what is essentially their first proper go at it. The duo took over at the end of 2019 but with that season not being played to a finish and the Bairns being unfortunate to miss out by virtue of one point in the last campaign, the stage was set for Falkirk to live up to their favourites tag this time around.
Since the resumption of lower league football in Scotland earlier this month, Falkirk have won all three of their games. That has seen them stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points and qualify them for the third round of the Scottish Cup where they will face Celtic.
Dumbarton Preview – Will Dumbarton spring a surprise to ease their relegation worries?
Dumbarton have a battle on their hands to stay in League One and Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Peterhead underlined how much of a challenge that is going to be. That loss leaves them third bottom with only Clyde and Forfar below them in the table. The Sons do have a game in hand over bottom place Forfar but played one more than Clyde. Both teams could go above them should Dumbarton fail to take points in this one.
The biggest issue for Dumbarton is scoring goals. Their total of five goals in their 11 league games so far is the lowest in the division.

Manager Jim Duffy will take some confidence from the fact his team’s shipping of 12 goals is only bettered by the current top three, so if his attackers can find some form then they should have a platform to build upon between now and the end of the season. Particularly as the league splits after 18 games in this shortened campaign. It looks nailed on that Dumbarton will be competing in the bottom five.
Duffy will be looking for his team to find the points in the remaining games that would see Dumbarton avoid finishing in the bottom two positions.
Falkirk vs Dumbarton Betting Advice
The only other meeting between these teams this season ended with a comprehensive 3-0 win for Falkirk in what remains the only home game where Dumbarton have conceded more than a goal. In their five away games so far, Duffy’s men have scored only three goals so they are up against it travelling to a venue where Falkirk have conceded only three goals.
Key Facts – Falkirk vs Dumbarton Betting Tip
- Falkirk have a six point lead at the top of the table and big favourites to return to the Championship after two years
- Dumbarton sit eighth but just two points above bottom place Forfar, albeit with a game in hand
- The Bairns ran out comfortable 3-0 winners when they faced Dumbarton earlier in the season
The game is priced up as though defeat is out the question for Falkirk and it’s easy to see why. Both these teams have big cup ties at the weekend but I’m backing the hosts to go into theirs on the back of a win without conceding.
