FC Copenhagen Preview – Champs to dominant this fixture again?
Just a matter of days after producing a satisfactory night’s work in the Champions League, Danish champions FC Copenhagen are back in domestic action aiming to maintain a flawless start to the new league term. Will their midweek exertions in Europe have any sort of detrimental effect or can Stale Solbakken’s team do what bookmakers and pretty much everyone else expects of them here, which is to chalk up another winning outcome?
The statistics show that it was perhaps not their finest performance but a 1-1 draw out in Serbia against Crvena Zvezda is certainly not to be scoffed at. A late Jonas Wind penalty ensured the Danes somehow escaped Belgrade with a positive outcome, despite spending much of the proceedings on the back foot and creating minimal scoring opportunities – their total of one effort on target was seven fewer than their hosts managed.

Lyngby Preview – Visitors to show more fighting spirit?
It has been a reasonable enough start to life back in the top league of Danish football for Lyngby, who have adopted an all or nothing approach it would seem in these early stages. Victory in their opening game at home to Aalborg (2-0) was followed by successive losses against Odense (4-1) and Sonderjyske (0-3). However, a 2-1 victory at home to Aarhus will have gone some way to restoring some confidence within the dressing room.
Now, the team need to somehow find a way of picking up where they left off in their latest league encounter, which was that previously mentioned victory at home to Aarhus. The manner of the win – needing to fight back from a 1-0 deficit at half-time to score twice without replay in the second period – was particularly encouraging, as something very similar may well be required in the Danish capital.
Their previous eleven visits to face Copenhagen in the league have seen them fail to avoid defeat, which means the likelihood of another spirited comeback being required is fairly high bordering on inevitable. Although any prospect of a potential comeback materialising would appear very slim indeed, as Lyngby weren’t the best of travellers last season – against far inferior sides from the league below.
A return of 23 points from 16 away outings in the Danish second tier was only the sixth-best figures in the division (W7 D2 L7, GF23 GA25). On top of this, their one away fixture so far this season saw them beaten comprehensively by Odense (4-1). It is stating the obvious, then, to declare their task at hand as daunting.

This has been a guarantee fixture for a long time as far as Copenhagen are concerned, having won the previous eleven league meetings as the home side. Hoping to catch the champions on an off day are Lyngby. The fact their opponents were in European action during the week might help their cause a little, while a morale boosting win at home to Aarhus last time out, in which they fought back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win, was also very timely.
It is plausible that Copenhagen could take their eye off the ball ever so slightly with a huge second leg in the Champions League to come next week, but there are a lot of what ifs involved with that. The league champions have won this fixture handsomely in the past, while three of their four victories so far this season also happened to feature a fair few goal. Therefore banking on another entertaining victory for the hosts makes a lot of sense.
