Eredivisie at Coral

Across the border we go for Sunday afternoon’s encounter between Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie as the betting tips continue at the Stadion Feijenoord for this local derby.

Feyenoord Prediction – Can Feyenoord open with derby win?

Last season’s 3rd placed finishers will be seeking to go a step better this time around and start proceedings off by hosting a local derby against Sparta Rotterdam.

In truth, Feyenoord finished a long way back from the top two clubs, Ajax and PSV, with Feyenoord trailing the latter by a margin of 18 points at the end of last season.

Nevertheless, Feyenoord sealed their place in the Europa League this season thanks to that 3rd place finish.

Although Feyenoord’s pre-season produced a mixed, if not, disappointing set of results, the hosts will be confident they can replicate last season’s record on home turf.

Early wins against SDC Putten, Dordrecht and Darmstadt were followed by three defeats from their subsequent 4 warm-up matches.

Defeats to Salzburg, Panathinaikos and Southampton will have done little for their confidence, but they’ll once again rely on form on home turf in this season’s domestic top flight.

Feyenoord ended last season with an impressive home record of 14-0-3 43/16 and will be managed by former Reading boss, Jaap Stam.

Stam will be looking to revive his ailing managerial career which saw him sacked by Championship side, Reading when he takes over the reigns of Feyenoord for this campaign.

Forward Berghuis now spearheads the host’s attack following the retirement of former striker Robin Van Persie.

Sparta Rotterdam Prediction – Can Eupen bounce back on the road?

After recording a 3-2 win on aggregate over De Graafschap at the end of last season, Sparta Rotterdam returned to the Eredivisie for this upcoming season.

A two-legged play-off against the Eredivisie incumbents, De Graafschap saw Sparta lose the 1st leg 2-1 at home and they appeared to be resigned to Eerste Divisie football next season.

However, a 2-0 win away from home at De Graafschap’s Stadion De Vijverberg was enough to see the visitors promoted back to the Dutch big time.

The hard begins now then and although they face a tough opening match of the season with a local derby against Feyenoord, early results suggest better things for Sparta Rotterdam this season.

A successful pre-season sequence of matches resulted in Sparta winning 5 of their 6 warm-up matches, so they’ll perhaps be quietly confident of doing well this Sunday.

Sparta Rotterdam will certainly need to improve upon results away from home though this time around if they’re to consolidate their Eredivisie status this term.

9 defeats from their last 11 away matches in their last stint in the Dutch top flight was the main reason they were relegated, and this included a 7-0 thrashing at Vitesse.

Key-Facts – Feyenoord v Sparta Rotterdam

  • Feyenoord won 6 of their last 8 matches at home in the Eredivisie
  • Sparta Rotterdam lost 9 of their last 11 away matches in their last term in Eredivisie
  • Feyenoord have won 6 of the last 7 meetings against Sparta Rotterdam

Betting Tips Verdict

Feyenoord will be desperate to continue their dominance over their local rivals, Sparta Rotterdam in their opening home match of the season.
