Fiorentina Preview – Can Fiorentina finally get their first win of the season and move themselves off bottom?

There was a fair bit of optimism around Florence for this new season with it being Vincenzo Montella’s first full season in charge following a successful initial spell which ended in 2015. Montella brought in several new faces with the most exciting being the veteran Franck Ribery. Despite his advancing years, Ribery was performing at a very high level for Bayern Munich last season and will add real quality to this squad. There’s also a number of exciting youngsters and they will learn a massive amount from the French winger. Montella has tried to bring a real attacking style, as well, and that has perhaps been their undoing at times this season. Although they are still winless from four games, there have been a lot of encouraging signs and you sense that when they get that win they could really kick on.

It looked for all money that their first win would come on Saturday having taken a two goal lead at Atalanta. Fiorentina were unable to hold on however, conceding two goals in the final six minutes. That followed a goalless draw at home to champions Juventus. If you had offered Montella two points from those games he would probably have taken that. Should they take all three points on Wednesday then five points from nine is more than a good return.

Sampdoria Preview – Will Samp follow up their first win of the season and pick up first away points?

There’s always uncertainty as to how a team will respond whenever there is a change in manager and that’s been the case for Sampdoria. Eusebio Di Francesco was appointed manager in the summer and the former Roma boss has not had it easy in his first couple of months in charge. A top 10 finish last season was a really positive campaign last time around and that will be the expectation once again. As such, to get that first win at the weekend would have been a massive relief for the coach. It may not have been pretty but he wouldn’t have been caring as Marco Gabbiadini got his first goal of the season to secure a 1-0 win.

When the fixtures came out it was always likely that Sampdoria could struggle in the early part of the season. Games against Lazio and Napoli are difficult at the best of times whilst there was also a visit to Di Francesco’s former club Sassuolo where they lost heavily. It was no surprise to see them lose all three matches. It meant that they would be required to pick up points immediately on the back of those games. The win over Torino is the start of that and Di Francesco will be hoping his team can add to Fiorentina’s troubles.

Key-Facts – Fiorentina v Sampdoria

  • Fiorentina are still looking for their first win this season but have shown some very encouraging signs in their games so far

  • The last eight games between these two have seen a total of 28 goals scored

Fiorentina v Sampdoria Betting Advice

These two teams may be bottom and second bottom respectively at the moment but it would be a real surprise if they were to be involved in the relegation scrap this season. Fiorentina and Sampdoria have both had difficult starts to their campaigns but there have still been encouraging signs. Fiorentina have faced three of last seasons top four already and been competitive in each of them. The visitors, on the other hand, will be buoyed by that win over Torino at the weekend.

This is a fixture that tends to bring goals. The last eight games have seen both teams scoring with a total of 28 goals scored. Fiorentina, particularly, have been involved in high-scoring games already this season with 14 goals in their four games so far. Sampdoria also concede their fair share with nine allowed in four matches. Over 2.5 goals looks a standout bet for this match whilst Fiorentina appear the most likely winner.
