Flamengo will go in search of a fifth consecutive win in the Brazilian top flight on Sunday evening when they play host to Serie A strugglers, Parana, at their Estádio Luso-Brasileiro, which in turn would consolidate their position at the top of the league.
Recent wins against Atletico Mineiro, Bahia, Corinthians and Fluminense have helped the hosts to a good start to the new campaign, and with a healthy looking home record that stands at 4-1-0 8/1 under their belts to date, another three points could be making their way to Rio tonight.
Four clean sheets from five home matches indicates a strong defensive unit, and with forwards Vincius (4 goals) and Dourado (3 goals) up front, they look a good bet to take the spoils here. In addition, Flamengo have suffered just one defeat in their last 15 matches on home turf.
Parana still remain in the bottom four of Serie A despite recording a second win on the trot last time out against Bahia in 1-0 home win, but their situation now looks a little more encouraging as they bid to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.
This may well be easier said than done here though, as they make their way to face the league leaders, Flamengo, who are in good form at the moment, and especially when you take a look at Parana’s results away from home so far this season.
Despite recording back-to-back wins, these were both at their Estádio Durival de Britto e Silva, while away from home, they possess a poor record of 0-1-3 2/6 which includes defeats at Sao Paulo, Santos and Vasco da Gama, and they’ve taken just one point from the last 12 on offer on their travels.
This should therefore be a relatively comfortable night for Flamengo.
