England have a tough opening game of the new Six Nations year. They will be heading over the Channel to head to the City of Lights to face France.

The Red Rose will be looking to bury the pain of having lost last year’s Rugby World Cup Final. Will they be able to get off to a flying start in this Championship?

England looking for Six Nations improvement

England collected a W3 D1 L1 record in last season’s Six Nations Championship, which came after such a strong start of having won in Ireland and then thumping France at Twickenham. It fell apart for them on a trip to Wales, the eventual winners of the tournament. There’s not likely to be a huge shakeup in terms of personnel.

England were on a very good track at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, peaking to brilliant performances to beat Australia and New Zealand in the knockout stages. They were undone by a very canny South Africa in the final, however. There have been questions about England’s away form in the Six Nations recently having lost four of their last six on the road in the tournament.

But there were big positives from the World Cup. Youngsters Tom Curry and Sam Underhill were the stars of their campaign. Notably, their new forwards’ coach is Matt Proudfoot, who was in charge of South Africa’s scrum for their successful World Cup campaign last year. Will that add an extra spark to them? England have only won three of their last eight Six Nations matches.

How fired up will inexperienced France be?

Talk about a shake up. New France head coach Fabien Galthie has drafted 19 uncapped players into his Six Nations squad. There is a feeling that they are going to be basing their game off of solid defence. That’s not exactly something that you associate with the French and how will the personnel changes handle the situation on the pitch?

They could give the experienced England plenty to think about, just because the visitors won’t really know what is coming for them. Their key weapon could be Virimi Vakatawa who has been in blistering tyr-scoring form for his club Racing 92. This is a big new era for the French, how are they going to pull it all together on the day?

France have lost four of the last five Six Nations contests against England. They were thrashed 44-8 at Twickenham last season. The recent meetings between the two of them in Paris is interesting.

Things have alternated between a home win for France and a victory for the visiting England in the last five. Given that France claimed a 22-16 success in their last home game against England, if the cycle continues, it means an England win at the Stade de France is due.

France vs England Betting Advice

The away form of England in the Six Nations has been less than stellar, having lost four of their last six. But the strong platform from their very good World Cup campaign is there with a few tweaks.

Key Facts – France vs England Betting Tip

  • France are W3 L2 in their last five Six nations home games against England
  • France have 19 uncapped players in their squad
  • England have won five of the last six Six Nations clashes with France

If the French come out fired up then they could make this interesting. But still, you would expect the experience and more settled England to find a way to win. It may be a grind, they may have to find a way to quiet the crowd early on, but England can come away with maixmum points.
