This is the big clash in the Six Nations on the weekend. A showdown which will determine where the Six Nations title ends up.

Ireland has their fate in their own hands. A bonus-point win for them in Paris would see them collect the title.

France have to win this game and better whatever England’s result against Italy is, including winning margin to claim the title on points difference.

France Preview – France can take the spoils against Ireland

Home advantage for France could be telling in this one as Les Bleus seek out the Six Nations 2020 title.

It has been a W3 L1 record from the French this season. It’s been a much-improved season as well for them.

The one reverse that they suffered in the campaign was a shock defeat at Murrayfield against Scotland.

France are trailing England by two points in the point-differential.

So if they and England both win by the same method, then France would need to top that differential to get the title.

France are the 8/15 odds-on favourites to win in Paris on the weekend* (odds taken 01:05 GMT Thursday, 29th October).

For our rugby betting, we would be behind that outcome as well.

The French have earned a bit of renewed respect with their performances this season and it all started on the opening week of this season’s championship.

France were expected to have a tough time at home against England, but they produced a brilliant tactical performance to totally throw England off their game.

Our betting prediction:
France 1-10 winning margin
21/10

They have looked very good this season, and they showed a bit of character and fight to hold on for a win in Wales too.

So we do expect France to be right on the money in this one. They were rampant last weekend against Wales.

That was an international friendly in Paris and it was a thumping 38-21 victory that the French took.

A France -4 handicap is at even money* (odds taken 01:05 GMT Thursday, 29th October).

Ireland Preview – Can Ireland deliver a knockout blow?

A bonus-point win for Ireland in France on the weekend, gives them the Six Nations title.

That of course, is going to be far easier said than done. Ireland faced Italy last weekend, in the one remaining match from round four.

The Irish put 50 points on the board in that contest. That gave them the bonus point win as well as boosting their points difference at the top.

Ireland’s only loss in this campaign happened against England at Twickenham in late February, a 24-12 reverse.

Ireland have won the last three Six Nations meetings with France, and four of the last five.

But they have all been relatively tight games.

Last season’s 26-14 win over France was the biggest margin of success that Ireland have taken over Les Bleus in their last four victories over them.

We don’t see this being settled by a big margin either way.

The Ireland +4 handicap is at even money* (odds taken 01:05 GMT Thursday, 29th October).

Ireland are pretty much sticking with the same starting XV that they sent out last weekend to face Italy.

The only chase is that Robbie Henshaw comes in for the injured Garry Ringrose.

The big issue here is trying to chase that bonus-point win. That’s going to be a massively difficult task to pull off at the Stade de France.

We don’t see it happening. Ireland have won two of their last three trips to the Stade de France.

Both wins in that sequence were by a two-point margin.

France vs Ireland Betting Advice

We see France getting over the line here as they look for the first Six Nations title since 2010.

They have impressed enough this season, despite the blip against Murrayfield, to warrant getting the support to win this game.

None of the last three meetings between the two sides in Paris have been settled by a margin of more than 2 points.

Key Facts – France vs Ireland Betting Tip

  • France have won only one of their last four against Ireland
  • France beat Wales heavily in a friendly last weekend
  • Ireland will win the Six Nations with a rare bonus point win at the Stade de France

France looked very committed and were wonderfully fluent last weekend in beating France.

We think we can get to a France -4 handicap for rugby betting* (odds taken 01:05 GMT Thursday, 29th October).

Ireland will likely stay close to them. There is little to choose between the two sides in terms of points scored this season.

But the home advantage for the French, especially bearing in mind the way they demolished England’s challenge in the opening round, should be the difference-maker.

France to win by a 1-10 margin at 10/3 odds looks a nice option for extended odds* (odds taken 01:05 GMT Thursday, 29th October).
