Eintracht Frankfurt Preview – Die Adler to put aside poor domestic form?

Last season’s semi-finalists in this competition can still be backed at a general 20/1 to win the tournament, despite scoring six times in the process of beating a dangerous Red Bull Salzburg 6-3 on aggregate during the previous round. An eye-catching performance from Eintracht Frankfurth considering how well the Austrian outfit acquitted themselves in the group stage of this season’s Champions League.

The German side approached the last tie in confident mood however, having made a lightning quick start upon the resumption of the Bundesliga where they won three of their first four matches in 2020. Conversely, Adi Hutter’s players approach this latest European assignment on the back of three consecutive league defeats, the latest a 4-0 hammering away to Bayer Leverkusen – who are also in action on the night against Rangers.

Frankfurt’s record in Germany in this tournament hasn’t been outstanding either, with as many defeats – to Arsenal (0-3) and Guimaraes (2-3) – as victories thus far – over Standard Liege (2-1) and RB Salzburg (4-1) – from their four said matches. Making it difficult to gauge what to expect from a team which has recently slumped to 12th (W8 D4 L12) in their domestic league. Meanwhile, nobody has more goals for them in Europe this season than Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada (6).

FC Basel Preview – Savvy Swiss being too easily dismissed?

Few clubs are as instantly recognisable as FC Basel, even if the 20-time champions of Switzerland lack the glamour or allure of some of their contemporaries. Boasting a wealth of European pedigree and with a formidable reputation for being incredibly combative opponents back home at St. Jakob-Park, there may not be a better 100/1 (888Sport) shot in the outright betting at this moment in time.

A semi-final appearance back in 2012-13 remains the furthest they have ever progressed in this competition, though. So far this season it has been an accomplished showing from Marcel Koller and his team, whose sole defeat across the group phase and Round of 32 (W6 D1 L1) came in Russia on Matchday 5, losing 1-0 in Krasnodar. Their record at home, meanwhile, has been flawless (W4).

Bearing how consistent they’ve been in Switzerland, there will be a strong desire to ensure this tie is not lost in this opening leg. Basel have endured a mixed bag on their travels, however. Winning 1-0 in Spain against Getafe, they would also come unstuck out in Turkey, drawing 2-2 with Trabzonspor, who claimed their sole point of the group. However, a 1-0 victory in Cyprus over APOEL in the Round of 32 sealed a 4-0 aggregate scoreline, in what was a very accomplished two-legged performance.

Eintracht Frankfurt Vs FC Basel Betting Advice

In this season’s German Bundesliga, Frankfurt have put together a tidy home record (W6 D3 L3). But this has not necessarily been replicated in this competition (W2 L2), although all four encounters produced lots of goals (minimum of three and on two occasions five). Over 2.5 Goals (8/11 BetVictor) is an option therefore, while those confident of home success can combine Frankfurt & Over 2.5 Goals (11/8 Betway).

Frankfurt Vs Basel – Key Facts

  • German side Frankfurt finished second in Group F behind Arsenal, winning only one of three home games (W1 L2) prior to thrashing RB Salzburg 4-1 in the Round of 32.
  • Basel have lost only once since the start of the group phase, topping Group C ahead of Getafe before easing to a 4-0 aggregate victory (winning 1-0 away) over APOEL in the Round of 32.
  • There are no prior matches between the two. Frankfurt (W8 D4 L12) sit 12th in the German Bundesliga while Basel (W12 D4 L7) occupy third in Switzerland’s Super League.

Most of Basel‘s better work in this season’s Europa League has been produced in Switzerland, although two away wins in four (W2 D1 L1) is still as many as the opposition managed on their own patch. Factor in their greater share of experience and nous and the 16/5 (888Sport) about Basel Draw No Bet really does appeal. Three of their four away matches finished 1-0, though, which could hamper our goal prospects.
