Frankfurt – Eagles can capitalise on favourite fixture?

Following last week’s 2-0 win in Mainz that made it three straight triumphs, to go with a 2-1 home win over Bayer Leverkusen and another 2-0 away day success at FC Augsburg, this Sunday sees Frankfurt (W5 D8 L2) attempting to win their fourth consecutive Bundesliga match having last managed such a feat in April 2019. Moreover, Adi Hutter’s side have now lost one of their past ten league matches (W3 D6 L1).

This resurgence has seen Die Adler close to within a point of seventh-placed Borussia Monchengladbach and the European spots. Amassing 16 points more than Sunday’s opponents, against whom they are unbeaten across all nine previous Bundesliga home games (W5 D4) at Commerzbank-Arena. In fact, Frankfurt have enjoyed more Bundesliga home wins against Schalke (26) than any other club.

A key component of Frankfurt’s success this season, especially lately, has been the continued contributions from Andre Silva. The Portuguese forward netted both goals last time, taking his tally after 15 matchdays to 11 goals – the only player in club history to have scored more at this stage was Greek goal-getter Theofanis Gekas (13 in 2010/11). Just four of Silva’s strikes this term have come at home, though.

Schalke – Attentions switch to first away win for thirteen months?

The second-longest Bundesliga winless run in history, spanning almost a full year (358 days) and 30 matches, has finally come to an end. Schalke (W1 D4 L1) have won a Bundesliga game! That they did so in such an emphatic manner made it all the more remarkable, absolutely dismantling Hoffenheim – who are one of only two sides to slain champions Bayern this term – to win 4-0 at Veltins-Arena last Saturday.

Californian Matthew Hoppe, uncapped at international level with the United States, emerged as The Royal Blues’ hero, becoming the youngest player in the club’s history – and third in Bundesliga history – to net a hat-trick. The 19-year-old had only made four senior appearances for the Gelsenkirchen outfit beforehand, but has arguably become the first name on Christian Gross’ team-sheet for Sunday.

Having consigned one miserable run to the history books, Schalke will hope to do something similar inside Commerzbank-Arena. It isn’t the nine prior visits to Frankfurt without winning, since a 4-1 success in March 2010, that unduly concerns them. More the fact Die Knappen haven’t won an away Bundesliga game of any kind in their last 18 attempts, and are the only side this term without a road victory (D2 L5).

Eintracht Frankfurt Vs Schalke Betting Advice

Christian Gross required only two games to banish Schalke’s longest winless run in their history, with a Matthew Hoppe-inspired 4-0 victory at home to Hoffenheim halting the club’s 30-match streak without a Bundesliga win. After enduring such an agonising wait for their first league success in nearly a year, it would be ironic were they to claim a second so soon after. However, this in-form Frankfurt will certainly have other ideas.

Eintracht Frankfurt Vs Schalke – Key Facts:

  • Across their last three Bundesliga games, Frankfurt would register more points (9) than their previous nine in the competition combined (7).
  • Ending a 30-game winless run last time, Schalke must now clinch a first Bundesliga away win since November 2019 (18 games – D6 L12).
  • Frankfurt have gone the last nine Bundesliga home games versus Schalke without losing (W5 D4), winning this fixture in each of the past two seasons (3-0 & 2-1).

Although a huge weight has been lifted, Schalke will find themselves immediately up against it in Frankfurt, who are seeking their fourth consecutive league victory having lost none of the past nine Bundesliga meetings as hosts (W5 D4). Meanwhile, Schalke are without an away Bundesliga win in 18 matches (D6 L12). Their seven away matches this season averaged more than four goals (4.43) and produced only two points (D2 L5).
