Freiburg Preview – Can Freiburg bounce back from weekend defeat and move back above Bayern in the Bundesliga?

It was further disappointment away from home for Freiburg at the weekend. Despite residing in the top six for virtually all of the season so far, the club have failed to win any of their last five on the road. It’s something of a surprise considering they won their first three away games in the Bundesliga. Christian Streich will be well aware that if his team are to maintain their current position then they have to resume winning ways on their travels. Where Freiburg have been so good this season is at home, however. Koln are the only visiting team to have won at Schwarzwald Stadion this term. Current leaders RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are amongst the teams who have been beaten whilst Borussia Dortmund could manage only a draw.

Key to Freiburg’s good home record is how well they defend. Unlike the teams above them they don’t have the same array of attacking options. Instead, they keep things as tight as possible and look to take whatever chances come their way. No team has conceded fewer home goals in the Bundesliga this season. Their last two home games have been 1-0 wins indicating further how difficult they can be to break down.

Bayern Munich Preview – Will champions Bayern kick on from excellent home win against Werder to keep on the heels of leaders?

The 6-1 demolition of Werder Bremen last time out was Bayern at their devastating best. It’s the sort of performance which will be equally pleasing and frustrating for interim boss Hans Flick as Bayern remain six points off the top because of their inconsistency. The win over Werder came on the back of two consecutive league defeats ensuring they are behind another four clubs as they look to continue their domination of the German league. With two of those four clubs meeting the day before, Bayern will be looking at this game to make up ground on either Dortmund or Leipzig. For the champions to do that they simply have to take all three points in what looks a tricky fixture.

A permanent appointment for the head coaching position is still uncertain but until then Fllck will be hoping he continues with more results such as the win over Werder and fewer like the defeats to Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moncenhgladbach. In what looks to be the most competitive Bundesliga for some time Bayern have to find greater consistency. Winning at this venue tomorrow would be the first step in doing that ahead of closing 2019 out with a home game against Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Key-Facts – Freiburg vs Bayern Munich

  • Defeat to Hertha at the weekend means Freiburg have not won any of their last five away games and will be hoping to keep picking up points at home
  • Bayern thrashed Werder Bremen 6-1 on Saturday but remain six points behind leaders RB Leipzig and cannot afford to fall further behind
  • The two meetings between these teams last year ended in 1-1 draws but Freiburg have not beaten Bayern since 2015

Freiburg vs Bayern Munich Betting Advice

The visitors only have to look at their opponent’s home record and see the list of teams who have failed to win here this season to know how difficult Wednesday’s game is going to be. Bayern are by no means regular winners on their travels, either. Their last six away games have returned only two wins – against Fortuna Dusseldorf and Paderborn, two teams who are are currently in the bottom three. They have to show their title credentials in the more challenging games.

Freiburg have to be at their best defensively to get something out this game. Bayern have shown how good they are when on their game and the threats they carry all over the park. It’s a really short price on an away win due to the number of injuries that Freiburg are coping with at the moment. Whilst a Bayern victory looks to be very much the likely result, take them to win without conceding.
