Cardiff have a huge job on their hands to turn things around as Fulham aim to see out the tie where they hold a two goal lead and are big favourites to play in next week’s final.

Fulham Preview – Can Parker’s men continue their dominance from the first leg to reach another playoff final?

Monday’s first leg could barely have went any better for Fulham and manager Scott Parker. Having narrowly failed to win automatic promotion, the Cottagers didn’t allow that to affect their performance in this game and built up a two goal lead thanks to quality strikes from Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano. Now, returning home, Fulham will attempt to finish the job off and reach their second playoff final in three seasons.

Confidence will be high that they can do that considering they have won the highest number of home games in the Championship along with Leeds.

Their recent form at home is also very good with seven wins in their last nine and perhaps more importantly, they have kept five clean sheets. Should they make that six clean sheets in 10 then Fulham will be back at Wembley next Tuesday. Whilst they will be looking to win, a draw or even a defeat by a single goal would do them.

Kebano’s contribution is also worth highlighting as the Congolese forward has scored four goals in his last three games including three from direct free kicks. He hadn’t scored a goal before the 5-3 win against Sheffield Wednesday.

Cardiff City Preview – Are Cardiff capable of overturning a two-goal deficit and keeping their Premier League dream alive?

Neil Harris and his players will have had three days to stew on their home loss to Fulham and the same amount of time to come up with a plan which they hope will see them produce a dramatic comeback and face either Brentford or Swansea City on the 4th of August. To make matters worse, they visited here as recently as the 10th of July and were well beaten.

It’s of course a very big ask but Cardiff under Harris have a relished a challenge under Harris and this is a game where there is now little expectation and as such, reduced pressure on the players.

What will give Cardiff some hope is their improved away form of late. The loss to Fulham is just one of two defeats in their last eight matches on their travels. They have won the other six and scored at least two goals in four of those matches. And that’s the minimum they are going to need to have any chance of progressing.

Harris would have been most disappointed with the fact that his team were always second best in the first leg and he will be demanding a much more competitive performance from his players at the very least.

Fulham vs Cardiff City Betting Advice

On the face of what we’ve seen in the last two meetings between these clubs then this game looks quite cut and dried. Fulham have been far better than Cardiff in two games within the space of a couple of weeks. Anything remotely like that and they will be preparing for a the playoff final at Wembley come full time tomorrow.

The expectation is Aleksandar Mitrovic will also return to the starting line-up for Fulham having missed out through injury on Monday. Further adding to the visitor’s problems.

Key Facts – Fulham vs Cardiff City Betting Tip

  • Fulham have won seven of their last nine home games, keeping clean sheets in five of them
  • The Bluebirds have won six of eight away games but did lose here earlier this month
  • The Cottagers 15 home wins this season is a league high along with champions Leeds

The playoffs tend to come with drama but on this occasion I think Fulham’s quality will shine through again. They may not need to win but at the odds I think a home victory represents good value.
