Preview: Nearly fifteen years have passed since Fulham last clinched a Premier League victory over West London rivals Chelsea, losing 12 of 19 subsequent top-flight meetings since a 1-0 success at Craven Cottage in March 2006. In line with current match odds, could further misery be in store for the Cottagers on Saturday?

Fulham – Time to turn promise into wins?

A fixture described as ‘scandalous’ by manager Scott Parker due to its late scheduling ended up yielding what could turn out to be an invaluable point, as Fulham displayed plenty of the resilience which has underpinned their recent turnaround by claiming a hard-fought point away to Tottenham on Wednesday. It leaves the West London outfit still in the bottom three, though, two points shy of safety in 18th.

Fulham (W2 D5 L8) have now drawn all of their last five league games, all of which either finished goalless or 1-1. The latest serving as just reward for a spirited second-half fightback against a Spurs side intent to sit in and try to hang on to a slender advantage. Ivan Cavaleiro’s powerful header fifteen minutes from time foiling that particular plan, after some smart work on the wing from substitute Ademola Lookman.

The Cottagers can count draws with Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham among their current five-game unbeaten run, with only the two Manchester clubs enjoying longer. The next step, of course, will be converting some competent displays into wins, something they have managed only twice all season – the last on 30 November away to Leicester (1-2) – and just once here at Craven Cottage (W1 D3 L4).

1-1 Draw (Correct Score)

Chelsea – Is Lampard approaching last chance saloon?

Cast our minds back to 12 December when three points against Everton would have seen Chelsea go top of the Premier League. The Blues were subsequently beaten 1-0, at the time only their second league defeat of the season, but would suffer a further three across the next five games to leave a side once hailed as genuine contenders for the title languishing in ninth ahead of Sunday’s West London derby.

A dire return of four points from the last six league games (W1 D1 L4) has unsurprisingly piled added pressure on Frank Lampard, whose side were thoroughly outclassed at Stamford Bridge by Man City prior to the Blues easing into the fourth round of the FA Cup after a straightforward 4-0 win over League Two Morecambe. Worryingly for Lampard, his side’s next two league assignments are both out on the road.

Chelsea (W7 D5 L5) can lay claim to having the third best home record in the top-flight, however, away from home they rank mid-table with a record of three wins, two draws and three losses bettered by eleven of their rivals. The Blues losing all of their last three away contests, at Arsenal (3-1), Everton (1-0) and Wolves (2-1), this after avoiding defeat in each of their first five away matches of the season.

Fulham Vs Chelsea Betting Advice

At the odds, Chelsea look a desperate price. Frank Lampard is a man under huge pressure to deliver a win in the first West London derby of the season, having overseen one win in six Premier League games (W1 D1 L4). Moreover, the Blues have lost all of their past three away from home. Conversely, Fulham are unbeaten in their last five league outings and have lost one of the last five at Craven Cottage (W1 D3 L1).

Fulham Vs Chelsea – Key Facts:

  • Five successive draws in the league for Fulham, whose last six Premier League games have seen an average of 1.14 goals.
  • One win from the last six Premier League matches (W1 D1 L4) for Chelsea who will be striving to avoid losing for a fourth consecutive away fixture.
  • Chelsea have won each of the last five top-flight meetings between the West London rivals, while Fulham last produced a win in this fixture in March 2006 (D7 L12 since then).

With five successive draws in the league coming into this contest, another stalemate for Fulham naturally appeals. Meanwhile, their previous seven competitive matches have all gone Under 2.5 Goals. I was slightly reluctant to back that here on the basis that the Chelsea attack is capable of racking up the goals on any given day, though they have now failed to net more than once in all but one of the past six league games.
