Preview: In West London on Saturday, Fulham will be desperate to avoid a 12th-consecutive Premier League London derby defeat inside Craven Cottage. Their opponents are Crystal Palace, who are back in this area of the capital for the second time in a month following their emphatic 4-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Fulham Preview – Cottagers can build on Bramall Lane display?

It may have taken them five games but Scott Parker’s Fulham are up and running in the Premier League. Well, sort of. After losing their first four fixtures by an aggregate of 3-11, a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United – who were also pointless going into the contest – handed The Cottagers their first point of the season. Unfortunately, it hasn’t altered the complexion of the table all that much.

Despite the hard-earned point last time out, Fulham remain entrenched in the relegation places and are among four clubs still without a win. Scott Parker’s men were deserving of their draw, though, matching The Blades in an even contest: SHE 1.83 – 1.82 FUL xG. It was, however, arguable that the game’s better chances fell Fulham’s way, while there was absolutely no doubt as to which player shone above all others.

Ademola Lookman was a late acquisition in the summer transfer window. It already looks a shrewd piece of business after the former Everton man delivered an exciting performance on his first start for the club. The 23-year-old produced more successful dribbles and tackles (3 apiece) than any individual out on the pitch to complement his well-taken goal, only Fulham’s fourth of the Premier League campaign.

Crystal Palace Preview – Hodgson’s men suddenly looking toothless again?

After the hottest of starts when winning their first two league games of the season, edging out Southampton at Selhurst Park before humbling Manchester United in a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford, Roy Hodgson and Crystal Palace went cold as they fell to back-to-back defeats against Everton and Chelsea. However they very nearly returned to winning ways last time out, only denied late on in the M23 derby.

Upon reflection, though, it was a point The Eagles barely deserved: CRY 0.80 – 1.83 BRI xG. Aside from a Wilfried Zaha spot-kick, Palace struggled to lay a glove on Brighton who were by far and away the more progressive and adventurous of the two sides. The Seagulls duly rewarded on the stroke of 90 minutes when Alexis Mac Allister’s deflected shot found a way past goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

Perhaps the only positive to be had from last week’s insipid display was another goal for the talismanic Zaha. The Ivory Coast international netting his fourth Premier League goal of the season, albeit this latest effort came from the penalty spot, which is as many as he managed across 38 games of 2019-20. Yet he was anonymous at Stamford Bridge in Palace’s last away encounter, a comprehensive 4-0 loss to Chelsea.

Fulham Vs Crystal Palace Betting Advice

During the previous round in the Premier League, both these teams would score first only to be left ruing the late concession of a goal and two crucial points dropped. Especially in the case of Fulham (D1 L4) who still find themselves bottom of the table on account of having not won a game so far this season. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace (W2 D1 L2) already have a couple to their name but are now winless in three.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace – Key Facts

  • No team has ever lost four successive Premier League home games each by a 3+ margin, an unwanted record Fulham are bidding to avoid on Saturday.
  • Five defeats, all without scoring, in their last six away Premier League matches for Crystal Palace – with a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford over Man Utd the exception.
  • On the last occasion Fulham were in the Premier League, in 2018-19, they would go on to lose home and away to Crystal Palace by the same 2-0 scoreline.

Fulham are bidding to avoid a third successive home defeat for the season, having lost 3-0 to both Arsenal and Aston Villa, but can take heart from what was another vastly improved display last time out. The Cottagers have looked a lot more competitive in recent league outings, and are a big enough price to get the draw onside versus a Palace outfit which has lost five of its last six Premier League away games stretching into last season.
