Fulham – Nothing to fear for resilient Cottagers?

Having gone to last season’s Premier League champions, Liverpool, and won, can Scott Parker’s resurgent Fulham (W5 D11 L12) somehow take something against the division’s current runaway leaders? The Cottagers went down 2-0 at Etihad Stadium in December but have shown tremendous application and resilience thereafter to lose four of seventeen (W3 D10) subsequent league games, conceding only 12 goals.

Each defeat came against a team either in the top-four or on the fringes, though, and all were sustained on their own patch where they’ve won only twice since promotion via the Championship play-offs last season (W2 D4 L8). Yet that 1-0 win at Anfield – albeit they were the sixth successive visiting side to win there – provides them with the platform to take it to the team many believe are champions in waiting.

As recently as 10 February Fulham were ten points off safety. They are now level on points with 17th-placed Brighton after taking 12 of the last 21 points (W3 D3 L1), conceding only twice in this run. With the latter not involved until the Sunday, a point from Saturday night’s Craven Cottage contest would see Scott Parker’s side clamber out of the Premier League’s relegation zone for the first time this season.

Manchester City – Brief slump over before it barely begun?

Pep Guardiola rung the changes in midweek, five in all from Sunday’s 2-0 defeat in the Manchester derby which saw the club’s 21-match winning run in all competitions brought to an abrupt halt, as Man City (W20 D5 L3) returned to winning ways in spectacular style. A 5-2 victory over Southampton bringing up the 23rd occasion this team had scored 5+ goals under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.

The thrashing of an enterprising Saints, who played their part in a chaotic contest, came courtesy of two goals apiece from Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez, while Phil Foden contributed with a couple of assists. City now require six wins from their remaining nine fixtures to be assured of their third title in four seasons, while such a commanding lead will surely mean further tinkering to the team are inevitable.

City are in Hungary on Tuesday for an important Champions League encounter. We can therefore expect Pep to dip into his deep squad once more for the visit to Craven Cottage – a venue they are unbeaten in nine (W6) since a 2-1 loss in November 2005. Meanwhile, their once impenetrable defence has conceded six times in the past four league games, twice as many as in their previous thirteen in the competition.

Fulham Vs Manchester City Betting Advice

Speaking ahead of this game, Fulham boss Scott Parker heaped praise on this Man City team as he conceded his players “could be on the end of one (a heavy defeat)”. He was also confident his team could cause problems, which they have done historically at Craven Cottage: 10 of the previous 11 Premier League meetings there produced goals for both sides, with a 2-0 win for Man City in 2019 the exception to the rule.

Fulham Vs Manchester City – Key Facts:

  • Each of the last eight league games featuring Fulham went Under 2.5 Goals. The Cottagers come into this contest in their best vein of form of the season (W3 D3 L1).
  • Goals have featured more regularly for Man City though: four of their last six league games either seeing three or more goals or
  • A 2-0 victory for Man City on their most recent visit to west London, in March 2019, ended an 11-match sequence between the sides in which both teams scored at Craven Cottage.

Man City eased to a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture. They have won 22 of the last 23 competitive fixtures, returning to winning ways in style during the week to bounce back from losing the Manchester derby. However, they have started to look loose defensively, conceding in five of their past six league games. Fulham are hardly prolific (22 scored in 28 PL games and 3 in last 9 at home) but rarely misfire when hosting this fixture.
