On Sunday afternoon, Fulham and Middlesbrough square off at Craven Cottage as the 2021-22 EFL Championship season gets underway. Marco Silva will be looking for all three points from his first game in charge of the Cottagers, but Neil Warnock’s Boro will not be an easy nut to crack. Nevertheless, Fulham are the odds-on bookies’ favourites. Check out our in-depth Fulham vs Middlesbrough betting preview.

Fulham Preview – Will Silva start with three points?

Fulham suffered an instant return to the Championship last season after a disappointing year in the top flight. The Cottagers finished in 18th place, picking up just five wins, suffering 20 defeats and drawing 13 times. Shortly after the season ended, Scott Parker joined Bournemouth and was replaced with Marco Silva.

Before a ball has been kicked in anger this season, the bookies have priced Fulham as their Championship promotion favourites. Silva did a fine job with Hull City in the Premier League a few years ago, while the Everton role came a bit soon for the Portuguese. Can he guide the Cottagers back to the promised land?

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
5/6

With away games at Huddersfield Town and Millwall following, Fulham would love to get maximum points on their own patch this weekend. The home win is currently priced at 10/11.

Middlesbrough Preview – Can Boro leave London with a positive result?

Middlesbrough are currently available at 11/2 for promotion. Nobody in Football League history has more promotions than Neil Warnock, and the experienced Yorkshireman will be gunning for another promotion this season. Boro could be dark horses.

In his first full season in charge last time around, Warnock guided Middlesbrough to tenth spot. They picked up 18 wins but also suffered 18 losses. Boro looked good for a play-off berth once or twice but ran out of steam in the end. Nevertheless, they certainly made progress under Warnock.

It does not get much tougher than a trip to Craven Cottage on the opening weekend, though Middlesbrough will fancy their chances of returning to the Riverside Stadium with a positive result. The away win is available at 16/5, while the draw is priced at 12/5.

Fulham vs Middlesbrough Betting Advice

On their way to promotion in the 2019-20 Championship campaign, Fulham picked up four points against Middlesbrough. Both games were tight affairs, with just one goal being scored in 180 minutes of football. The pair drew 0-0 at the Riverside in October. A few months later, an Anthony Knockaert goal gave Fulham a 1-0 victory at the Cottage.

The Cottagers are unbeaten in their last five league and cup matches against Middlesbrough, winning three and drawing two. Boro’s last win came in February 2016.

Key Facts – Fulham vs Middlesbrough Betting Tip

  • Fulham finished 18th in the Premier League last term
  • Middlesbrough are available at 11/2 for Championship promotion
  • The Cottagers are the title favourites

This truly is a mouth-watering Championship encounter on the opening weekend. Silva will want to make an instant impression, but Warnock’s Boro will no doubt be formidable opponents at the Cottage. We can see a share of the spoils in this one, and the draw and under 3.5 goals is available at 100/30.

Despite plenty of rumours of him moving on, Aleksandar Mitrovic remains a Fulham player. The Serbia international scored goals for fun in his last Championship season, and Mitrovic is priced at 15/4 to score the opener here.
