Fulham Preview – Can Fulham record a fifth win in six home matches to keep pressure on second place Leeds?

The surprise 3-0 home defeat to Barnsley earlier this month is virtually the only disappointment for Fulham since losing at home to Reading on New Years Day. Scott Parker’s men have won five of their last nine, drawing three, and that run had put them to within reach of Leeds and automatic promotion. As it is now, they are five points behind the Elland Road club but with 11 games left to play there’s still a possibility they can finish in the top two.
If they are to do that then Fulham will need to be within touching distance of Leeds who they face in the middle of next month. It’s a game which you feel they would have to win, too.

It’s Fulham’s home record which has been so good all season, in spite of that surprise loss to Barnsley. Their tally of 11 wins is only equalled by tomorrow’s opponents and is the joint-highest in the Championship.
The Cottagers also have the league’s highest scorer with Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian has 23 goals so far including five in his last six games. He is going to be pivotal to Fulham’s hopes of promotion – whether automatic or via the playoffs.

Preston North End Preview – Will Preston bounce back from midweek defeat to maintain their top six position?

Alex Neil is doing a fantastic job at Preston and has got his team challenging for the playoffs which not many would have predicted at the start of the season. North End are in sixth spot and three points ahead of Bristol City, with their superior goal difference essentially making that a four point lead. That’s despite losing away to West Brom on Tuesday. It was a first defeat in six away matches for Preston and it’s been the improvement on their travels which has given them the edge in the race for the top six.

Their form at Deepdale has been excellent all season so you feel if Preston can continue to pick up wins regularly on the road they are in prime position for the playoffs.

Despite their improvement on the road, no teams has scored fewer away goals in the league than Preston this season. Their 15 goals is the lowest in the Championship and what’s even more remarkable is that eight of them have come in their last five away matches.

Neil will be hoping that the defeat to West Brom on Tuesday is just a blip and his team can resume their better form against one of their playoff rivals.

Tightening up that top six picture even more. You have to go all the way back to 2000 for the last time Preston won away to Fulham, however.
