Roma hold a 1-0 lad from the first leg but it’s still all to play for in this tie as Gent will fancy their chance of overturning the deficit now they play at home.

Gent Preview – Can Gent continue their excellent home form to upset their Serie A opponents?

Entering the business end of the season and Gent are on course for a really promising campaign. Currently second in their domestic league, they are currently in possession of a finish which would see them go into next season’s Champions League qualifiers. With three games left of their regular season they have a seven point lead over third place Standard Liege and are also the current top scorers in the Belgian top-flight.
You have to go all the way back to the 5th of May last year for the last time Gent lost a competitive game at home. Since defeat to Club Brugge in the league last season Gent have went on to win 17 and draw four. It’s an incredible run of form and one which will give them a lot of confidence going into this second leg against Roma.

Gent’s participation in this year’s Europa League has also been very encouraging heading into tomorrow night. They are undefeated through the group stage, winning three and drawing three. That was enough to top a group containing Wolfsburg, Saint-Etienne and Oleksandria.
Their home form in the competition is particularly strong as well with five wins in their last six and their last defeat coming all the way back in 2017.

Roma Preview – Will Roma complete the task and progress into the last-16 of the Europa League?

Due to an outbreak of the Coronavirus in Italy a number of Serie A game were postponed at the weekend but Roma were one of the few teams able to fulfil their fixture. Coach Paulo Fonseca would have been happy that they were able to play as Roma kept their top four hopes alive with a first league win in five matches at home to Lecce.

That win came on the back of the hard-fought home win against Gent in the first leg of this tie, with a goal from Carles Perez making the difference.

Roma’s passage to this stage was very challenging in that they were one of three teams vying for the two qualification spots. They outlasted Borussia Monchengladbach to finish above the Germans by one point and ensured knockout European football which would have been a minimum for them in relation to this competition.

The Italian’s away form in the Europa League has been something of a mixed bag. They had a win, a draw and a defeat in their three group stage matches this year but have lost only two of their last 10 in the competition on the road. If they can extend that tomorrow it will mean progression into the last-16.

Gent vs Roma Betting Advice

This is a really finely-balanced tie as it sees a team with a terrific home record – both domestically and in Europe – attempting to turn around a one goal first leg deficit against a team who have such a rich European history.
The teams last met in European competition back in 2009/10 when Roma thumped their opponents 7-1 on their way to a 10-2 aggregate win.

Key Facts – Gent vs Roma Betting Tip

  • The Belgians have not lost a home game in this competition in their last nine matches
  • Roma have lost just once in the Europa League this season, a 2-1 defeat away to Borussia Monchengladbach
  • It was a 7-1 demolition the last time Roma faced Gent in Belgium back in the 2009/10 season

It’s a tie I very much see goals in. Six of Gent’s last eight matches have had at least three goals in them, which is exactly the same as Roma’s recent form. All six of Gent’s last six home games in the competition have also went over 2.5 goals, as have four of Roma’s last five Europa League away games. It looks a solid bet tomorrow.
