Georgia Prediction

Georgia made a mockery of their League D status in the inaugural UEFA Nations League competition as they romped Group 1 by a significant margin of 10 points ahead of runners-up Kazakhstan, and winning five of their six group matches to gain automatic promotion up to League C.

Georgia recorded a 100% winning record on home soil with wins over Latvia, Andorra and Kazakhstan but to be honest, it was a rather weak group and Georgia took full advantage of their mismatched superiority to finish clear winners of the group.

The harder work now begins for the hosts, and this opening group match against Switzerland will be a good measure as to how far the hosts have come, and to test their latest six-match winning streak on home soil.

Indeed, the hosts have lost just once in their last 12 matches at home in all competitions but they’re likely to come up against tougher opposition in this encounter. Incidentally, it’s been 15 years since these two teams last met.

Key-Facts – Georgia v Switzerland

  • Georgia have lost just 1 of their last 12 matches at home in all competitions
  • Switzerland have lost just 2 of their last 13 away matches
  • It’s been 15 years since these teams last met

Switzerland Prediction

Switzerland emerged from their League A group victorious as they pipped a talented Belgium outfit into top spot in Group 2 thanks to a superior goal difference of +6 to progress through to the semi-finals stage of the inaugural UEFA Nations League competition.

The Swiss will meet Netherlands in early June for the right to take their place in the final, but until then, all attention will now turn to the business of qualifying for Euro 2020 where they’ll be looking to qualify from this Group D alongside possibly Denmark or Republic of Ireland.

Switzerland suffered just one defeat throughout the group matches which was a 2-1 loss away at Belgium, but having already secured an emphatic 6-0 home win against Iceland, and then back-to-back wins against Iceland 2-1 away and a resounding 5-2 home win against Belgium in the final group match, the Swiss fully deserved to win their group.

With just two defeats from their last 13 away matches in all competitions (not including the World Cup), the Swiss look like they mean business and with a sprinkling of Premier League players such as Newcastle United defender Schar and Arsenal defender Lichtsteiner along with Arsenal’s midfielder Xhaka, the visitors possess some useful experience at the back and in the middle of the park.

Betting Tips Verdict

Georgia’s progress will be severely tested here, and I’m expecting Switzerland to edge this one.
