Getafe are on the brink of securing a Champions League spot for the first time ever in their club history and they’ll take another step towards this feat if they manage to get something from this encounter against Real Madrid at their Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Thursday night.
The hosts occupy 4th place on the La Liga ladder and hold a two point lead over the chasing clubs below them, Valencia and Sevilla, so they’ll be keen to at least avoid defeat in this clash. Real Madrid sit in 3rd spot and a clear 10 points ahead of their hosts this evening, Getafe, prior to this upcoming clash, so the visitors are virtually assured of another Champions League campaign next season barring a disastrous slump in form.
Real Madrid have lost just one of their last seven matches overall in La Liga which was a 2-1 loss away at Valencia, but recent wins against Huesca, Eibar and Athletic Bilbao, all posted at their Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, have maintained their push for another top four finish.
However, this season has seen the visitors’ usual dominance over their rivals Atletico Madrid be overhauled by their crosstown neighbours as they find themselves down the pecking order compared to previous campaigns.
