Gladbach – Foals suffering under wantaway management?

A miserable week, month even, was compounded on Tuesday with a slender defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, three days after surrendering a two-goal lead in the league to lose 3-2 away at RB Leipzig. The latter a sixth consecutive winless outing across all competitions, losing each of the past four including the first-leg of their Last-16 Champions League tie with Man City.

Indeed, these are alarming times. Particularly in the league (W8 D9 L6). They now run the very real risk of missing out on a return to European competition next term, trailing seventh-placed Union Berlin by a point ahead of Matchday 24. The top-four, meanwhile, and with it all the prestige and finances Europe’s premier club competition offers, is becoming a mere pipe dream, now nine points further back in ninth.

It is perhaps no coincidence that their recent slump coincides with recent news that head coach Marco Rose has opted to switch allegiances in the off-season, with Dortmund the next destination for a highly-regarded Marco Rose. The 44-year-old has a difficult challenge maintaining motivation levels through to the end, overseeing 2-1 losses to lowly FC Koln and Mainz in his side’s past two home Bundesliga outings.

Leverkusen – Bosz struggling to arrest the slide?

It has been a similarly rotten period over in Leverkusen (W10 D7 L6). Since losing to Bayern Munich in the run up to Christmas, Die Werkself have fallen like a stone in the Bundesliga. From scaling the summit in December, to occupying sixth position ahead of the weekend’s short trek to Borussia-Park – a ground which does, however, harbour fond memories, having won on four of five prior visits in all competitions.

Leverkusen, who weren’t involved in the midweek DFB Cup action having earlier bowed out to lower league opposition, should be well-rested, though. Six days on from sustaining a 2-1 home defeat to Freiburg. That a third successive winless league outing (D2 L1), and five altogether, having won only once – a 5-2 triumph at their BayArena over promoted Stuttgart – in their past nine competitive matches (W1 D3 L5).

They were also eliminated from the Europa League last week after losing both legs of their Last-32 tie against Swiss outfit Young Boys. So this has clearly been a demoralising period for the club, not least the players who are hopelessly out of form. Especially away from home, failing to win any of their past six away encounters (D2 L4) – claiming a solitary point from their past four away Bundesliga games.

Borussia Monchengladbach Vs Bayer Leverkusen Betting Advice

Placing faith in either of these sides coming good at Borussia-Park, where the visitors clinched victory in four of the past five league and cup meetings, requires a significant leap of faith. Gladbach are currently winless across their last six competitive matches (D1 L5), losing the last four on the bounce after Tuesday’s DFB Cup exit to Dortmund. Leverkusen, meanwhile, are without a win in five (D2 L3).

Monchengladbach Vs Leverkusen – Key Facts:

  • The hosts, Gladbach, enter this fixture on the back of no wins from their last six competitive matches (D1 L5).  Leverkusen are winless in five (D2 L3).
  • Gladbach, with four defeats in the previous five home meetings, have conceded more goals when playing Leverkusen (145) than versus any other Bundesliga opponent.
  • Leverkusen completed the league double over Gladbach in 2019/20, following up a 3-1 victory here at Borussia-Park by winning 4-3 at BayArena.

Four of the past five meetings produced three or more goals. Their league encounters in 2019/20 averaged 5.5 goals with both going Over 3.5, as Leverkusen backed up their 3-1 triumph at Borussia-Park by edging a seven goal thriller in the reverse fixture. Meanwhile, both teams to score has landed in all-but one of Gladbach’s last six league matches, and all of Leverkusen’s past five, so expect another explosive renewal.
