Gloucester got themselves an expected lift last weekend as they put on a strong show to beat Leicester at Kingsholm.

That was the second win in four games since their return for the Cherry & Whites.

They may well have another chance at a win on the weekend; they welcome London Irish to Kingsholm, and the Exiles are well out of form now.

Gloucester Preview – Can Cherry & Whites secure back to back wins?

There was a 46-30 win over the struggling Leicester last weekend for Gloucester. That was a victory which improved the outlook of their season a bit.

Gloucester are W6 L11 for the campaign, and with too much to do to have a hope of returning to the top four as they did last season.

It is a W2 L2 record that Gloucester have collected since the season was restarted. Their other success happened against Worcester.

So they have beaten teams beneath them, which should bode well for them here as London Irish are one place below them in the standings.

Gloucester have a seven-point advantage over the Exiles. They have scored a stack more points than Irish have done as well.

Gloucester are one of only five teams in the Premiership at the moment who have managed to hit the 400-points threshold for the season.

There are only two teams who have scored more tries than the Cherry & Whites have done in this campaign as well.

Gloucester are the 2/9 odds on favourites so they are expected to stroll away with the points* (odds taken 23:19 GMT Friday 4th September).

When Gloucester faced London Irish earlier this season, they fell to a 24-20 loss, leaving them with back to back losses against the Exiles.

Gloucester have lost three of their last four against them as well.

But the trend is a win for the home team on the day as that has been the way each of the last five league meetings have been settled.

The Cherry & Whites have won each of their last three Premiership home fixtures against London Irish.

Another positive for Gloucester is that they haven’t lost both games in a single season to London Irish since the 200/506 campaign.

A Gloucester -10 handicap for the fixture is at 10/11* (odds taken 23:19 GMT Friday 4th September)

London Irish Preview – No relief for the Exiles yet

The London Irish are struggling badly now. It’s a six-match losing streak in the Premiership running against them.

The last win that they took in the league was when they beat Gloucester in February at the Madejski Stadium.

So this was a really poor run of form by them and last weekend they conceded 40 points in a heavy home loss against Saracens.

But notably in the game before that, they lost against fellow-strugglers Leicester.

There just has not been the scoring threat there from Leciester at all who haven’t managed more than 17 points in any of their last five league games.

London Irish have scored 108 points fewer this season than Glcouester have managed. The Exiles also boast the worst defensive record of all teams.

Because of the lack of scoring that has come from London Irish, they are obviously underdogs here, and an Irish -10 handicap line is at that 10/11 quote* (odds taken 23:19 GMT Friday 4th September).

But there is always a positive somewhere if you look hard enough and that will be found in the three road wins that the Exiles have earned this season.

Those road wins were at Wasps, Northampton and Harlequins. Those are all teams who are sitting higher in the standings than Gloucester currently are.

Still, the losing streak of the Exiles doesn’t immediately look as if it is going to be coming to an end on the weekend.

Gloucester vs London Irish Betting Advice

We would have to swing with Gloucester in this one, even though they have not been the most convincing of teams this season.

Last weekend they did run up a comfortable lead against Leicester at Kingsholm, before going off the boil in the match.

So we would expect something similar here, Gloucester getting off to a good start and then just comfortably riding this out.

Key Facts – Gloucester vs London Irish Betting Tip

  • Gloucester have lost 3 of the last 4 league meetings with London Irish
  • Gloucester have won their last 3 league home games against the Exiles however
  • London Irish are currently on a 7-match losing streak

There just isn’t the scoring power in the Irish to warrant backing them to pull off an upset and collect their fourth road win.

It’s not easy to break out of a major slump like the one that they are on and there are enough positives in Gloucester’s game, particularly in finishing, for the home side to secure the success.
