Scotland’s Graeme Dott has continued his fine run of recent form. He claimed a big upset victory as he beat Ronnie O’Sullivan in the last round of action at the World Grand Prix in Cheltenham. Can he keep his eye on the ball and win this semi-final against Tom Ford?

Dott continues with the strong current form
Graeme Dott, who headed to the World Grand Prix on the back of a good semi-final place at the German Masters, continued his form. He was up against Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix at Cheltenham.
Dott raced out to a strong 3-1 lead and while he had to fend off a little comeback from the Rocket, Dott got himself a very good 5-3 victory.
In the first round at Chetlenahm Dott had beaten Kurt Maflin 4-1 and then Xiao Guodong 4-0 in the second round. So there was always a chance that he was going to come through the challenge against O’Sullivan.
Dott looks in great form at the moment and it’s well worth considering him to continue this hot streak.
Dott is a seasoned pro of course, but never a major threat when it comes to winning titles in ranking events. He hasn’t won a ranking event since the 2007 China Open in fact. Since the start of the 2017/18 season has been to the final of just two tournaments.
He was knocking on the door last week at the German Masters but was stopped by eventual winner Judd Trump. He has now opened the draw up nicely to actually drive towards this title.
Ford making steady progress
23rd seed Tom Ford powered his way to a 5-2 victory over fellow Englishman Gary Wilson in their quarter-final match-up. He opened his account by knocking out 10th seed Stephen Maguire.
It was then a victory over Matthew Selt which set him up for the quarter-final duel with Wilson. This is the furthest that Ford has ever been in the World Grand Prix.

From his three previous efforts, he had one first round and two second-round exits. There hasn’t been a lot of recent form from him at all.
In his four ranking event appearances prior to this World Grand Prix challenge, Ford had bowed out in the first round in three of them. He did make just his third ranking event semi-final at the 2019 English Open in October last year, however.
