Granada Preview – Europa League qualification still viable?

Last season’s Segunda Division runners-up have so far shunned any notion of a relegation battle on their return to Spain’s top-flight, even spending a brief spell atop La Liga after registering six victories through the first ten rounds of fixtures. Unsurprisingly, such a blistering start could not be sustained. Nevertheless, Granada (9th – W11 D5 L11) will resume the campaign in ninth-place and with a healthy thirteen points separating them from the drop zone.

Finishing in the top half of the table has to be the aim now. Europe cannot be ruled out, though, not with only four points to bridge on Valencia in seventh. Particularly if coach Diego Martinez can somehow harness the form his team displayed prior to COVID-19 halting proceedings in March, when going the final four league games without losing (W2 D2) whilst collecting eight out of a possible twelve points.

If they are to pick up where they left off, playing their first fixture back inside familiar surroundings should undoubtedly help. Granada can boast the sixth-strongest record in home fixtures in 2019-20 (W8 D2 L3). They have conceded just eight times overall at Nuevo Los Carmenes, where they won three of their most recent four La Liga encounters and were beaten only once in seven (W4 D2 L1).

Getafe Preview – Top-four chasers seeking a winning return?

Some, more than others, will have been relieved to hear news of La Liga’s imminent return. Getafe (5th – W13 D7 L7) being chief among them. The club only narrowly missed out on a top-four finish in 2018-19, thus missing out on qualification for the Champions League, and must have thought the same was happening all over again when, at the time football was suspended in early March, they were in fifth-place.

Getafe resume the campaign level on points with fourth-place Real Sociedad, and only a point adrift of Sevilla in third, and so had everything to lose from football in Spain being postponed indefinitely Their relief is probably palpable. The break-in-play also came at a bad time, this despite only one win from their last four league matches (W1 D1 L2) – a run of games which included Barcelona and Sevilla.

Victory over two legs against Ajax in the Europa League meant Getafe should have had an added spring in their step going into their subsequent fixtures. Instead any momentum has been stopped in its tracks. Jose Bordalas will be confident of a result on Friday regardless: his team boast a better record away from home this season (W6 D3 L4) than all bar two teams, losing just two of the last eight said matches (W5 D1 L2).

Granada Vs Getafe Betting Advice

Getafe prevailed 3-1 when these sides met on Matchday 13, in what was a surprisingly entertaining game considering the impressive nature in which both teams have defended this season – the pair conceding at a rate of less than a goal per game in their respective home and away matches. Recent head-to-heads inform us that we should expect a repeat. The last six meetings have seen both teams score while only one returned fewer than three goals.

Granada Vs Getafe – Key Facts

  • Results at home have formed the basis for Granada‘s impressive season to date, recording 8 of their 11 victories in La Liga on home soil.
  • Visiting Getafe are no mugs on their travels, though, picking up more points from away matches than anyone except Real Madrid and Sevilla.
  • Goals are synonymous with this fixture, with each of the past six La Liga meetings seeing both teams find the back of the net.

As far as picking a winner goes, Getafe’s last taste of victory in five top-flight visits to Nuevo Los Carmenes was in 2013. Granada won three of those meanwhile, and have been very reliable there this season, winning 8 of 13 so far. Granada DrawNoBet is therefore a fair price at 6/5 (Betfair).
