Granada Preview – Can Granada extend their excellent Europa League record by doing the double over PSV?

It may be the first time Granada are playing in the Europa League but you wouldn’t know it from their performances. With two games still to play in their group, the La Liga minnows are already certain of their place in the knockout stage and need just a point to guarantee top spot. It’s a brilliant achievement for Diego Martinez and his players, with the coach also experiencing European football for the first time in his managerial career.

Granada have beaten PSV away and won both matches of their double header against Omonia Nicosia. The only team to have prevented them from winning all seven of their European games so far this season are PAOK. Whom they drew 0-0 with here at the end of October.

Unsurprisingly, Granada have been very good defensively in this section with just two goals conceded in their four games. They’re not known for being free-scoring so providing they can maintain that solidity at the back then Granada will feel they will always have a chance in games.
The Colombian Luis Suarez scored in both games against Omonia and is starting to find some form for his new club having made the move from Granada’s sister club Watford in the most recent transfer window.

PSV Preview – Will PSV take a big step towards the knockout stage with a vital three points here?

It could have been easy for PSV to feel sorry for themselves after losing at home to Granada on match day one. Having taken the lead in that game through their big summer signing Mario Gotze, the Dutch club were very much second best for the remainder of the game. Losing home games early on in a group phase does put you up against it, but Roger Schmidt’s men have responded well.

They won away to Omonia and defeated PAOK 3-2 at home in their most recent game, coming back from two goals down. It was required having lost heavily in Greece the match before.

That set of results means PSV do have control of their own destiny but will likely require a minimum of four points in order to qualify considering PAOK (who are a point behind) face Omonia away before hosting Granada. And they tend to be very consistent at their own stadium.

There is no shortage of goals in this PSV team with the personnel they have and also the way in which they play. Schmidt is an offensive coach and his team have scored in every game, across all competitions, so far this season.

Granada vs PSV Betting Advice

All the pressure is on PSV coming into this game but Granada will be wanting to book top spot and can do so with a draw. It’s unlikely the visitors would settle for that but they were caught out at home to Granada and will be mindful of leaving themselves exposed playing away from home.

Key Facts – Granada vs PSV Betting Tip

  • Granada are unbeaten throughout their European campaign this season, winning six of their seven matches
  • PSV currently sit second in this group but just a point above PAOK
  • The La Liga side came back from one goal down to win 2-1 in Eindhoven when the teams last met

It’s very much a class of styles this one but Granada will fancy their chances of continuing what has been an excellent campaign. They showed in Eindhoven that they have the measure of this team and despite not needing the win, they are capable of clinching top spot in style.
