Greenock Morton Preview – Can Morton get the win and pull themselves clear of the bottom two?

It’s been something of a struggle for Morton since the early part of this season. David Hopkin’s men sit in second bottom and just two points ahead of Partick Thistle after their respective results last weekend. It was a positive enough start for them as they won two of their first three games but things have dropped off markedly. It’s not just two wins in their last 10 league games and they come into Saturday’s game on the back of three straight defeats. Hopkin can take some solace from the fact that his team have been competitive in all three of those games losing them all by one goal margins, but the outcome is the same and they are now one of three teams who are separated by a couple of points at the foot of the division.

Scoring goals has not been an issue for Morton, especially at home where they sit second behind leaders Dundee United. The clear issue for them is their inability to keep the ball out of their own net. The 29 goals they have conceded is a league high and four more than the second worst defensive record. Morton have managed to keep just one clean sheet in their 13 league games this season and until they rectify that they are going to keep struggling to pick up points.

Arbroath Preview – Are Arbroath set to make it three wins in a row?

They were runaway winners of League One last season but there was little expectation that Arbroath would do much at this higher level. One of two part-time clubs in the league, the feeling was they would do well to be competitive and almost certainly involved in the battle to avoid the drop. Now we’re over a third into the campaign and those predictions are beginning to look a bit silly. Dick Campbell’s men are in fifth spot heading into the weekend and any positive result would see them move into the playoffs. Campbell is vastly experienced so there is no way he will be getting carried away. But he will be very encouraged by what he’s seen so far.

Arboath’s two star men so far this season are Bobby Linn and Liam Donnelly. Linn is a veteran of the club and leads the scoring charts with five goals. His team-mate Donnelly is also in good form with four goals in total and two in his last four matches. The nine goals these two have combined for represent 64% of their team’s goals in the league, underlining just how important a contribution they make.

Key-Facts – Greenock Morton vs Arbroath

  • Having won two of their first three this season, Morton have picked up only two wins in their next 10 matches

  • It was a 1-0 win for Arbroath when the sides met last month and they are seven points better off than their opponents

Greenock Morton vs Arbroath Betting Advice

The teams met as recently as a month ago when Arbroath edged out their opponents 1-0 at home. It’s one of the reasons why the hosts are seven points clear of Morton and looking upwards rather than below them at this point in time. Hopkin’s will be hoping that the improved performances his team have been putting in in the last few weeks continue but brings with it some reward.

It’s now four wins in the last five games for Arbroath with the only defeat in that time coming away to Dunfermilne. Three of those wins have come at home, too. Campbell will feel his team are capable of giving their hosts problems and taking advantage of their leaky defence. Arbroath have scored in four of their six away games in the league and it makes both teams to score look an attractive proposition.
