Hearts Preview – Are Hearts set a ninth home league win of the season?

Robbie Neilson would have been both delighted and relieved with Hearts’ win over St Mirren at the weekend. The Tynecastle club are well clear in third spot and on course for what would be qualification to the group stages of the Europa League, but had just been going through a tough run which threatened to give some of the teams below them hope. Now, with a 2-0 win in Paisley coupled with other results, Hearts are 11 points clear with 10 games to go.

Their cause was helped somewhat by the fact their opponents went down to 10 men but goals from Ellis Simms and Cammy Devlin gave them their first three points since the end of January and ended a run of three straight defeats in the league.

The challenge for Hearts now will be to put a run of wins together and close out the league campaign with a minimum of fuss. Their record at Tynecastle is particularly good and they are going in search of a ninth league win here. Before the surprise loss to Dundee in their most recent home game, only Celtic and Rangers had won here which is an indication of how strong they have been.
With a quarter-final in the Scottish Cup to come against St Mirren later this month, there is still the potential for this to be one of their club’s best ever seasons.

Aberdeen Preview – Can Dons revive their hopes of a top six finish with what would be a rare away win?

When Aberdeen made the change from Stephen Glass to Jim Goodwin last month there was never likely to be an immediate change or difference in results or performances. Goodwin is still working with the same group of players who have been unable to perform consistently under his predecessor.

The Dons have drawn with both Motherwell and Dundee United since the former St Mirren boss took over and not losing those games, they’re not gaining ground on a couple of rivals for the top six and potentially Europe.

Aberdeen make the journey to Edinburgh tomorrow having failed to win any of their last eight games and just one victory in 10 games – that coming against League One opposition in the Scottish Cup. It’s still a surprise they have a chance of finishing in the top half let alone fourth spot, but a win here could see them rise into that position depending on results elsewhere.

The issue for Goodwin is that his team rarely win away. They’ve recorded only two victories on the road in the league this season, with the most recent of those against St Johnstone in the middle of December.

Hearts vs Aberdeen Betting Advice

It felt like an important win for Hearts at the weekend, ensuring that the nerves building didn’t become any greater. Their opponents know exactly how that feels considering they are still looking for a first league win in 2022. Their supporters would be boosted if that came here and they were able to upset a team whom many expected them to be challenging with for third place.

The Dons have had the better of the meetings between the two this season. A 1-1 draw here early in the season was followed by a 2-1 win at Pittodrie at the end of October.
