Hearts Preview – Will Hearts take derby spoils and go top of the table?
Hearts could barely have had a better start to the league campaign in what is their first season back following promotion. Robbie Neilson’s men are unbeaten after four games with 10 points to show for it. The only game they have failed to win in the Premiership is a 1-1 against Aberdeen – another team who have started strongly. Wins against Celtic, St Mirren and Dundee United see them sit second by virtue of an inferior goal difference but the chance to end the weekend top should they get all three points here.
Hearts play three of the current bottom six after this game so the incentive is there for them if they can get a win and then play teams who are – in theory – of a lesser standard than the ones they have faced so far.
Liam Boyce was always going to be crucial for Hearts if they were to be successful this season and he’s been excellent in the opening month. The striker is a proven goal scorer at this level and has already bagged three. He’s actually scored in his previous four games if you include the League Cup defeat to Celtic.
Neilson will be hoping that his team can also build on their first clean sheet of the league season last time out when defeating Dundee United at Tannadice.
Hibernian Preview – Can Hibs silence their doubters with a big match win?
Hibs finished third last season and the challenge was always going to be maintaining that level of performance this time around. Aberdeen have strengthened and the promotion of rivals Hearts have similar ambitions to Jack Ross’ men but there can be no complaints as to how the Easter Road club have handled the increased expectation domestically.
Top of the table on goal difference, Hibs only dropped points came in a 2-2 draw away to Dundee. Their wins have probably not come against the same level of opposition as Hearts but they have seen off Livingston and Ross County with the minimum of fuss after coming from behind to beat Motherwell on the opening weekend.

The injury to Christian Doidge is a blow but the club moved swiftly to bring in James Scott on loan. Kevin Nisbet and Martin Boyle provide the biggest threat with the former of that duo already in four goals for the season. They have been representing their countries during the international break.
The one disappointment for Ross so far this season is going out of Europe with a whimper. One of the benefits of finishing third is competing in Europe and not they never did themselves justice on this occasion.
