Hearts – Can Hearts continue their excellent home record in this competition to keep silverware hopes alive?

With third place and European football looking very likely for Hearts, they can really target this competition and attempt to win their first trophy since 2012 when they won the Scottish Cup after a famous victory against rivals Hibs. Hearts have made the final twice since then, losing to Celtic on both occasions. They’ll be looking to go one better this time and have the ideal opportunity to make it to the semi-finals at least with a home tie, here.

Hearts’ route to this stage has seen them comfortably overcome non-league opposition Auchlineck Talbot but find life much tougher against Livingston in the last round, requiring penalties to get the better of their Premiership rivals following a goalless draw. Robbie Neilson’s men have started to rediscover some better form since then, however.

The Jambos have beaten St Mirren (2-0) in the league before beating Aberdeen and then sharing the points with Dundee United. More importantly is the performance levels have been a lot better and they are beginning to find the net again with regular occurrence.
The one negative in their recent form has been the number of injuries they have sustained and it looks like several key players will be missing for this one. That includes John Souttar who could be out for a prolonged period and considering his form this season, he would be a significant absence.

St Mirren Preview – Are Saints set to kick on after earning first win under Robinson?

Whenever a new manager comes in it’s all about getting the first win as soon as possible. Sometimes that’s even more the case when the new man takes over a group of players who had been in good form. That was the case for St Mirren and Stephen Robinson. Saints had won six out of seven before Jim Goodwin left, Robinson has been in charge for the last four and with three defeats to begin, an added-time winner away to Dundee last time out was hugely needed.

The win gives the Buddies renewed hope of a top six finish – they’re currently one of four teams level on points and looking to secure sixth spot.

In terms of the Scottish Cup, St Mirren have been flawless in wins over Ayr United and Kelty Hearts. Both of those opponents are in leagues below them but scoring six goals without conceding is good going. Robinson now has to prepare his players for their hardest test in competition so far.

Saints’ away form has been good in the most part has been good. It’s five defeats in their last 15 on the road which has included six wins. That will give them some hope of getting a result here in a match that will be settled on the evening, with extra time and penalties if needed.

Hearts vs St Mirren Betting Advice

This will be the fourth meeting between the sides this season and Hearts have won each of the last three by an aggregate score of 6-1. It’s no surprise they are favoured to progress and they also have a very strong record at home in the Scottish Cup with their last defeat in this competition here coming back in 2014.

Key Facts –  Hearts vs St Mirren Betting Tip

  • Hearts have not lost a Scottish Cup tie at Tynecastle since 2014 (nine games)
  • St Mirren have beaten lower league opposition Ayr United and Kelty Hearts to reach this stage
  • Hearts are looking to make it four straight wins against St Mirren this season

There will be no surprise with how St Mirren approach this one. Robinson will set his team up to sit deep and frustrate Hearts, attempting to keep them in the game for as long as possible. Hearts will be used to that but may have to be patient for goals. Six of the last eight meetings between the two have went under 2.5 goals and that’s the selection here.
