The Scottish Cup has reached the quarter-final stage and it’s an all Premiership clash at Easter Road with Hibs and Motherwell looking to reach the last four.

Hibernian Preview – Can Hibs take a step closer to winning their first Scottish Cup since 2016?

Hibs were the last club other than Celtic to win the Scottish Cup back in 2016 and with the holders now eliminated, will be hoping to become the next name on the trophy. Jack Ross’ men look set to clinch third spot which will see them qualify for Europe but he knows how important the cup competitions are to the club, too.

The Hibees got as far as the semi-final last season only to lose out to rivals Hearts at Hampden whilst it was a similar case in this year’s League Cup when eventual winners St Johnstone done a number on them. So Ross will feel he has unfinished business as he looks to get back to the national stadium.

It’s been a comfortable route to the quarter-finals with 3-1 and 4-0 wins over Queen of the South and Stranraer respectively and a real positive of those performances has been how much more fluid the attack has been, albeit against lower league opposition.

Kevin Nisbet has been at the centre of everything Hibs have done will in forward areas this season and it’s no surprise to see him back amongst the goals following a spell out the team. He’s scored in each of his last three games taking his season’s tally to 17.

Motherwell Preview – Will Motherwell continue their good form and progress to the semi-finals?

Motherwell were one of three teams dispatched by Celtic in the last four Scottish Cup finals, losing 2-0 back in May 2018. Stephen Robinson, who led them to two cup finals that season, has since left the club and the challenge is now with Graham Alexander to go above and beyond and deliver some success to the Fir Park club.

‘Well have not found it as easy as their opponents in getting to this stage, requiring penalties to beat Greenock Morton in the previous round. That was in stark contrast to their 5-0 win away to Highland League team Formartine prior to that.

With their Premiership status secured for another season, Alexander and his players can focus solely on going as far in this competition as possible. Wednesday’s win in the derby against Hamilton means they have lost just one of their last eight – easily their best run of form under the manager.

There has been a noticeable improvement in Motherwell’s defence over the past couple of months. The 4-1 defeat against Kilmarnock is the only time they have conceded more than one goal in that run of eight matches and also kept five clean sheets. That will give them confidence travelling to Easter Road where they’ve not conceded in either of their two visits this season.

Hibernian vs Motherwell Betting Advice

There’s no doubt Hibs will be the happier of the two having been drawn at home but this will be Motherwell’s third visit to Easter Road and they have won one and drawn the other – so there will be optimism from the visiting team they can get the result they need to progress.

You sense the home team are hitting some form at a good time, however, and their main striker is back to his best form, so are rightly favourites for the tie.

Key Facts – Hibernian vs Motherwell Betting Tip

  • Hibs have scored seven goals in their two Scottish Cup matches so far this season, conceding just once
  • Motherwell required penalties to see off Championship side Greenock Morton in the last round
  • The teams have faced each other three times this season – one win apiece and a goalless draw

Hibs do have better attacking options and that could be the difference in this cup tie. Back the home team to make it into their second semi-final of the season as they look to go all the way in the Scottish Cup.
