It’s a massive game in the race to finish in the top six of the Scottish Premiership as a stuttering Hibernian team host St Johnstone. Hibs have a one point lead but having played a game more.

Hibernian Preview – Can Hibs recover their good form to put distance between themselves and Saints?

Jack Ross will be starting to feel slight pressure for the first time since taking over at Hibs. The Easter Road club come into this huge game on Saturday having lost their last two games, both by a score or 3-1. Hearts defeated them at home in the Edinburgh derby before Aberdeen came back from a goal down to brush aside 10-man Hibs a few days later. It’s now just two wins in their last eight league games and leaves them only a point ahead of their weekend opponents in the race for sixth.
Whilst progress in the Scottish Cup to the semi-final stage is welcome, a top six finish was the minimum in terms of the league campaign.

At this stage, with only three games of the regular season left, Hibs really have to take all three points with a visit to Hamilton (fighting for their lives) and hosting Celtic to close out the league before the split.
The manner of the defeats to Hearts and Aberdeen will also be a concern with little in the way of resilience shown in either game. It also means Hibs have kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 league games which has been a problem all season.

St Johnstone Preview – Are St Johnstone set to continue excellent league form to overtake Hibs?

From relegation candidates to potential top six finishers – it’s been quite the turnaround for Tommy Wright’s St Johnstone. A significant turnover in players last summer combined with a change in style seen the Perth club struggle for much of the first half of the campaign. It’s been a completely different story in 2020, though, and they travel to the Scottish capital this Saturday with the second best form over the last six games, behind leaders Celtic.

The Saints have a game in hand over their opponents, albeit that is away to Rangers. However, with Steven Gerrard’s men struggling at the moment it’s another game where they can potentially find the points to leapfrog Hibs.

Taking four points from games against Livingston and St Mirren, combined with Hibs’ recent slip-ups, have made this a huge game for St Johnstone – something that didn’t look likely a few weeks ago. We’re also seeing a return to the style of football that we’ve become accustomed to under Wright. A team which is hard to beat, well organised and taking their chances when they come along.

That is demonstrated by the fact that the Saints have conceded more than one goal in just one of their last six league games.

Hibernian vs St Johnstone Betting Advice

It’s been advantage Hibs in the two meetings between the teams this season. A 2-2 draw at Easter Road at the beginning of the campaign was followed by a resounding 4-1 win in Perth shortly before Jack Ross was appointed.
You sense the away team would be much the happier if they can get a repeat of that draw at this venue back in August.

Key Facts – Hibernian vs St Johnstone Betting Tip

  • Only Celtic and Rangers have scored more goals at home than Hibernian in the Scottish top-flight
  • St Johnstone are now unbeaten in their last seven Scottish Premiership games
  • The two meetings between the sides this season have featured a total of nine goals

This is totally different St Johnstone team to the one Hibs faced back in November. It does tend to be a fixture which produces goals, though, with eight of the last nine featuring goals for both teams. Twelve of Hibs’ last 14 games have also seen both teams scoring and whilst St Johnstone have tightened up, it’s likely they will have to score if they are to get anything out the game such is the attacking prowess of the home team.
