Hibernian Preview – Can Hibs make it three straight wins against Saints as they look to climb the table?
Four points from two league games this year mean Hibs have been able to put some distance between themselves and Kilmarnock in seventh. That’s significant in Scotland as the league splits in two after 33 matches and it gives the Easter Road club something of a cushion in that race. Jack Ross will not be settling for just getting into the top six, though. He will have ambitions of finishing as high as possible.
Realistically, the 12 points that separate Hibs and Motherwell in third spot is probably too big to make up but as it brings European football it will be in the manager’s thinking.
For Hibs to start climbing the table and putting pressure on teams above them they have to string a consistent run of form together. Whilst they are unbeaten in three matches in 2020 (at the time of writing) performances are still not overly impressive. Ross knows that to sustain a winning run his team have to do better.
St Mirren Preview – Can Buddies find a rare away result to ease their relegation concerns?
It may be a new year but it’s been the same old St Mirren so far. The Buddies have played two league games and there has been one goal scored in total, taking one point from a possible six. Jim Goodwin since coming in last summer has made his team very difficult to play against and attempted to build from a solid defensive base.
That aspect of their game is definitely encouraging with a better defensive record than half the league which – considering their precarious position – is decent going. Where St Mirren now have to show improvement is in attack.

Now team has scored less than St Mirren with a league low of 17 goals. Only six of those have come on their travels where they have taken just four points from a possible 33. It’s a real concern with Hearts starting to improve below them.
This game comes ahead of what already looks like being a huge game against Hamilton next weekend. St Mirren are two points ahead of them at the moment and regardless of results here it’s likely to be a battle that goes all the way to the end.
Hibernian vs St Mirren Betting Advice
These games, at home to teams at the bottom of the table, are ones in which Hibs simply have to be winning if they are to improve their league position. St Mirren would be happy with a draw from this match considering their lack of points away from home but they are generally a very awkward team to play against. And Hibs are well aware of that having narrowly gotten past them on both previous meetings this season.
Key Facts – Hibernian vs St Mirren Betting Tip
- Hibs have taken four points from their first two league games of 2020
- St Mirren are regularly competitive but they have won only four points in 11 away games
- It’s Hibs who have the upper hand in this fixture with 1-0 and 2-1 victories already this season
It’s going to be another testing afternoon for Hibs trying to break St Mirren down but they have shown in both meetings against them that they are capable of doing that. With decent home form under Ross I’m taking them to take all three points for the fourth time in six games under this manager.
