There’s also action from the USA MLS during this week and my next preview features a Western Conference v Eastern Conference clash with hosts, Houston Dynamo, taking on Philadelphia Union at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Texas.
Although Houston sit in a disappointing eighth place in the Western Conference, they’ll head into this encounter in reasonably confident mood as they’ve recently put together a four-match unbeaten run which includes a 3-0 home win over Minnesota United and draws with Los Angeles FC, Colorado Rapids and Dallas FC.
Two of the three aforementioned teams (Los Angeles and Dallas) currently sit in the top two of the Western Conference, which puts these stalemates into better context, and with a seven match unbeaten run on home turf amidst an overall home record of 6-2-2 24/11, Houston will be keen to get something from this match.
Forwards Manotas (10 goals) and Elis (9 goals) are the danger men for the hosts.
Philadelphia Union find themselves in a similar position in the Eastern Conference as they sit in seventh place but four points adrift of the top six, ahead of their trip to Texas where they’ve lost their last six encounters against Houston Dynamo.
This doesn’t bode well for Philadelphia who will be desperate to reduce the points deficit and claim a Final Series play-of spot, but this is becoming increasingly more unlikely, particularly given recent results for The Union.
The visitors have lost three of their last four with defeats against Los Angeles FC, Atlanta United and LA Galaxy, while their away record in the Eastern Conference stands at a below-par 2-1-6 8/19 with both wins being against divisional opposition, Montreal Impact and Chicago Fire.
I believe Houston Dynamo should win this, but I advise giving the quarter-ball as there’s been a few draws lately.
