Sunday brings us the first of two Yorkshire derbies in the Championship and we kick the action off with a high noon clash between Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday as the betting tips continue at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield Town Prediction – Can Watford start climbing up table?

Having lost 5 of their first 6 matches of this new Championship season, Huddersfield Town took advantage of the international break to install the new management of the Cowley brothers from League One side, Lincoln City, as The Terriers look to kick-start their Championship campaign against Yorkshire rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

Huddersfield Town currently sit second from bottom in the second tier and level on a point apiece with bottom side, Stoke City, following what has been a disastrous side for Sunday’s hosts. Defeats to Derby County, Fulham, Cardiff City, Reading and Luton Town have left Huddersfield in dire straits in these early stages of this new second tier season.

There’s still time though for Danny Cowley to work his magic at the John Smith’s Stadium but he has a tough start against Sheffield Wednesday. Having earned just 1 point from their first 5 matches of this season, Cowley and Huddersfield have their work cut out to make the hosts competitive again.

Their task is made that much harder by the fact that Huddersfield have lost their last 3 home matches on the trot, so confidence is fragile at best and the first goal (if any), could be crucial in the outcome here.

Sheffield Wednesday Prediction – Can Sheffield Weds continue hold over Huddersfield?

It’s been all change at Hillsborough too as Sheffield Wednesday relieved caretaker-manager, Lee Bullen, of his first team duties for The Owls by replacing him with former Birmingham City manager, Garry Monk, during the international break.

It’ll be Monk’s second stint at a Yorkshire club having managed near neighbours, Leeds United, previously in the Championship, and Monk will no doubt be keen to turn around the fortunes of Sheffield Wednesday after making progress in a previous period under former boss, Steve Bruce.

Sheffield Wednesday also head into this clash in average form as The Owls have lost 3 of their last 4 matches in the Championship as they’ve slumped to defeats against Millwall, Preston North End and QPR prior to the international break.

The visitors have also suffered back-to-back defeats recently away from home too, so neither side in this Yorkshire clash look in any sort of form to grab all three points. However, Sheffield Wednesday appear to possess the stronger of the two attacks with the likes of Fletcher (3 goals), Murphy and Harris (2 goals) forming a 3-man attack.

Key-Facts – Huddersfield v Sheffield Weds

  • Huddersfield Town have lost 5 of their first 6 matches in the Championship
  • Sheffield Weds have lost 3 of their last 4 matches in the Championship
  • Huddersfield have failed to beat Sheffield Weds at home in the last 7 meetings

Betting Tips Verdict

There’s a lot of work on Danny Cowley’s plate to turn Huddersfield around, while Sheffield Wednesday should flourish under Monk’s presence. Back the visitors with the handicap here.
