Two teams with very different ambitions go head-to-head at the John Smith’s Stadium in the EFL Championship on Friday night. Danny Cowley’s Huddersfield Town are still fighting for their lives, while Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion hunt down a place in next season’s Premier League. Take a look at the latest Championship betting odds and tips.

Huddersfield Town Preview – Can the Terriers cause an upset on their own patch?

Danny Cowley’s Huddersfield Town start the weekend only three points above the drop zone in 20th spot. Since an impressive victory at Birmingham City on July 1st, the Terriers have taken just three points from a possible 12, although they have beaten just once during that time.

In their previous home fixture, Huddersfield were poor in a 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Luton Town. Sonny Bradley and Elliot Lee were the scorers for the Hatters at the John Smith’s Stadium. Since winning three of four, Town have lost two and drawn one of their past three on home turf.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No
5/6

It’s hard to believe that Huddersfield were a Premier League club just last season. They are now facing a real battle to stay in the Championship, but they could be safe if results go their way at the weekend. Can Cowley’s troops do their bit on home soil?

West Bromwich Albion Preview – Will the Baggies move a step closer to the Premier League?

If West Bromwich Albion beat Huddersfield on Friday and Brentford go on to lose their fixture at Stoke City, Slaven Bilic’s Baggies will be a Premier League club next season. Of course, Albion will hand the ball to the Bees if they drop points at the John Smith’s Stadium. This truly is a huge fixture for the Midlands outfit.

Since that damaging defeat to Brentford at Griffin Park back in June, West Brom have struck back with a five-game unbeaten run. However, after three wins, the Baggies go into this one having drawn their last two. In midweek, fellow promotion chasers Fulham held West Brom to a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns.

Bilic’s troops have been superb on their travels this season. West Brom have the best away record in the Championship, winning 12, drawing seven and losing only three to chalk up an impressive 43 away points.

Brentford have kept the top two honest since the restart, but West Brom could put a four-point gap between themselves and the London side before Brentford’s fixture at the bet365 Stadium. West Brom will certainly fancy their chances at the John Smith’s Stadium this Friday night.

Huddersfield Town vs West Bromwich Albion Betting Advice

Back in September, Huddersfield were on the wrong end of a 4-2 thriller at The Hawthorns. Despite being behind at half time, second-half goals from Darnell Furlong, Matt Phillips and Semi Ajayi proved to be enough to give the Baggies a comfortable victory in the end.

Key Facts – Huddersfield Town vs West Bromwich Albion Betting Tip

  • Huddersfield are without a win in four, drawing three and losing one
  • West Brom have the best away record in this season’s Championship
  • Six goals were scored in the reverse match at The Hawthorns, with the Baggies running out 4-2 winners

Huddersfield are fighting for their Championship lives, so Cowley’s boys would love all three points from this one, but I fancy West Brom to get the win in West Yorkshire. You can get 33/20 for the away team to be winning at half time and full time.
