Huddersfield Town lost a pulsating clash against the favourites for promotion from the Championship, Newcastle United, in a 3-1 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium on the weekend, but they’ll be looking to redeem themselves against Aston Villa on Tuesday night.
The Terriers have had a fantastic season in the English second tier this term, and although they suffered their first defeat in seven games, the Yorkshire outfit now look set for a play-off place where they’ll take their chances on a ‘wild card’ promotion up to the big time.
Huddersfield’s home record stands at an impressive 12-2-3 26/16 but they’ll be mindful that all the hard work that’s already been done earlier in the season, isn’t wasted in the run-in. Prior to the defeat to Newcastle United, Huddersfield had put together a four-match winning streak with victories over Ipswich Town, Brighton, Leeds United and Reading.
Aston Villa registered a third consecutive win in the Championship on Saturday when they accounted for down and out Rotherham United in a 2-0 win away from home, but they’re likely to face much stiffer competition on Tuesday night across the moors.
Villa have also recently picked up wins over Derby County and Bristol City although both of these victories were at their Villa Park ground where they’ve suffered just two losses all throughout this campaign to date – but their away record tells a very different story.
An away record of 3-5-10 10/22 has left Villa someway short of achieving any kind of play-off ambitions they might have had, and they’re going to have to spend at least another season in the Championship before they can start dreaming of Premier League football again.
