Huddersfield Preview

It’s been another trying week for Huddersfield who occupy bottom spot in the Premier League. David Wagner left the club by mutual consent in what was a surprise to many. As a club they clearly feel that someone else can get more points from the Terrier’s remaining 16 games as they bid to reduce the eight point gap that currently exists between them and safety. It looks improbable at the moment with only 11 points all season and no club has ever recovered from this position at this stage of the season in the history of the Premier League. For Wagner, he now moves on willingly – it seems – and will no doubt be exhausted from his efforts since joining what is essentially a provincial club back in 2015 and leading them to the Premier League and keeping them safe in their maiden year. Mark Hudson will take temporary charge for this game as the club looks to appoint a more permanent replacement. It’s a tough ask for Hudson as he faces one of the best sides that this league have seen and one who are in ominous form. It’s the opposite for Huddersfield who have won only two games all season with the last of those coming in November.

Key-Facts – Huddersfield v Manchester City

  • This game is a clash between the lowest and highest scorers in the Premier League
  • It will be Huddersfield’s first game since David Wagner left the club this week
  • The hosts have failed to score in six of their 11 home matches this season

Manchester City Preview

Manchester City are at something of a disadvantage in terms of fixtures this month, as they continually play later than leaders Liverpool who – if they continue winning their games – will inevitably be further ahead by the time City come to play meaning the pressure is even more increased. The current champions responded well to that last weekend when brushing aside Wolves to narrow the gap back to four points and may have to do similar on Sunday with Liverpool big favourites at home to Crystal Palace 24 hours earlier. Pep Guardiola will be attempting to clear that from his squad’s mind, though, and get them focussed on continuing a good run of form which has seen them win five in a row in all competitions having lost two on the spin. City have scored an incredible 24 goals in that spell, highlighting how devastating they can be. They’ll make the short trip to Yorkshire on Sunday wary of any ‘bounce’ from the home team following the change in manager and having had a tough encounter at this stadium last season.

Huddersfield v Manchester City Betting Advice

This fixture pits together the lowest scorers in the Premier League against the team who have scored the most. It really is a clash of complete opposites in terms of money, resources, and style – but Huddersfield were extremely competitive in both matches against City in the previous campaign. Raheem Sterling’s late goal at the John Smith’s secured Guardiola’s men a narrow 2-1 win whilst they gained a valuable point when travelling to the Etihad at the tail end of the campaign when City had won the league. It was a very different story on their most recent trip to face the champions, going down 6-1 earlier this season. And it’s that contrast in form which perhaps sums up the difference between Huddersfield of last season and this term.

Huddersfield have lost the last four games at home and that sort of form is only going to end up with teams struggling at the foot of the table. They’ve also failed to score in six of their 11 home games which doesn’t bode well for Sunday or the remainder of the season. City, on the other hand, are scoring goals for fun now and there is definitely a greater focus about their game now than there was at the end of 2018 when they lost back to back matches. The hosts might well have changed their manager but I’m expecting a similar out come with Manchester City to win without conceding a goal, as they have done in each of their last three games.
