Preview: The cliched relegation six-pointer at Kirklees Stadium as Huddersfield, two points clear of the Championship relegation zone, host a Luton side in dire straits at the bottom of the table. Three points would be a huge boost to their respective survival causes, but will either prevail in West Yorkshire?

Huddersfield Preview – New-found defensive resilience can propel club to safety?

Five points from as many games since the restart for Huddersfield (18th – W12 D11 L19) as the club strives to ensure a second successive demotion, after finishing bottom of the Premier League in 2018-19, is avoided. Tuesday’s rather uneventful goalless draw at Reading moved The Terriers on to 47 points, only two clear of the Championship relegation zone with only four more games still play. A couple of which could prove problematic.

After welcoming bottom club Luton to the Kirklees Stadium, Huddersfield face Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and West Brom. The latter two still very much involved in the battle for promotion. So points will have to be hard-earned from here on out. Arguably then, this next fixture looks their best bet for three points, with it on paper being by far and away their easiest remaining match-up.

Manager Danny Cowley will probably feel there is enough momentum behind his side for them to pick up a useful result here. The performance last time out was uninspiring but it did include a third straight clean sheet, while their current three-game unbeaten run, with draws against Preston and Reading following a 3-0 success in Birmingham, is their most productive period since a run of two wins and a draw in December.

Luton Town Preview – Hatters need maximum hauls in final stretch?

Fresh from a 5-0 mauling at the hands of Reading at the weekend. Luton (24th – W11 D8 L23) would deliver a more accomplished display at home to relegation rivals Barnsley several days later, in what was always likely to be billed as a relegation six-pointer. Well, they have another here. After coming up short last time around, letting an early lead slip late on to draw 1-1, can Luton secure the result they so desperately need?

That result being a win. Anything less and it is difficult imaging how this team, which is already five points adrift of safety at the foot of the table, escaping the mess they find themselves in. Their remaining fixtures do work in their favour, though, with games against QPR, Hull and Blackburn all eminently winnable. Yet that is easier said than done for a side with only one win in five (W1 D3 L1) since the resumption.

Despite a disappointing conclusion to the Barnsley encounter, Nathan Jones was enthused by the performance as his team displayed no ill-affects to the weekend’s hammering sustained in Reading. More encouraging has been recent performances away from home. Holding Leeds to a 1-1 draw in their latest away fixture is one thing but to beat an in-form Swansea at Liberty Stadium has to fill them with immense belief that they can get something in Yorkshire.

Huddersfield Vs Luton Betting Advice

Another significant fixture in the context of the Championship relegation scrap. For Luton, who are five points off safety at the foot of the table after one win in five post-lockdown fixtures (W1 D3 L1), winning has become necessity. Yet Huddersfield, also with one win in five games since the restart (W1 D2 L2), can hardly afford to ease up perched only two points above the bottom three.

Huddersfield Vs Luton – Key Facts

  • Luton haven’t conceded more than one goal in four of their past five away league games (W2 D2 L1).
  • With one win and two draws accrued across their last three league fixtures, Huddersfield are enjoying their longest unbeaten run in the competition since December.
  • Luton secured their first win in five meetings (W1 D1 L3) with Huddersfield at Kenwilworth Road in August, coming from behind to win 2-1.

There is very little to split them with regards to recent form, and this could end up being reflected in the final scoreline. The pair have also tightened up lately. Huddersfield posting three successive clean sheets and Luton conceding no more than one goal in seven of their last eight league fixtures. Between them, meanwhile, these two have conjured up five draws in ten matches since the restart. Another could be imminent
