Hull City Preview – Will Hull find a much-needed result to stop their losing run?
Nobody expected the return to Championship football to be easy for Hull and that has been the reality so far. Winners of League One last season, Hull are currently in the bottom three having won just two of their first 14 games in the league so far. One of those victories came on the opening day (4-1 away to Preston) but they have since only beaten Middlesbrough (2-0 at home).
Their recent form is particularly concerning as they have lost their previous three coming in this game, and scored one goal in that run of defeats. Only Barnsley and Derby sit below them in the table.

One bit of encouragement for manager Grant McCann is that his team have been competitive in their recent home games with the exception of a 3-1 defeat against Sheffield United, but they are in desperate need of turning performances into points.

Coventry were in Hull’s shoes last season having been promoted as champions of League One in 2019/20. The Sky Blues had a strong second half to the season, eventually finishing in 16th spot and well clear of any relegation worries. This campaign has seen them return to their own stadium and it has coincided with a very positive beginning to this season.
Mark Robins men sit fourth heading into the weekend with 24 points from their 14 games. That is in large part to their home form which was faultless until last week. Coventry won their first six at home and many had them making it seven straight only to draw with bottom club Derby.

It’s been a different story away from home, however. Their solitary win on the road came against Blackpool back in August. They’ve taken only two points from a possible 18 outside of that on their travels. Their total of five away goals is the joint fewest outside the relegation places indicating where their issues lie.
More generally it’s now just one win in their last five league matches – a run which has included a 5-0 loss away to Luton. Robins will be looking for a change in fortunes in this game.
