Hull’s hopes of challenging for the playoffs appear to be well and truly over as they now begin to look over their shoulders. Opponents Swansea are very much still aiming for top six but they need to be winning games such as this in order to achieve that.

Hull City Preview – Can Hull put recent struggles behind them and win their first league game since New Years Day?

The Championship is up there as being the most unforgiving leagues in football and Hull are very much feeling that at the moment. The Tigers have been in and around the top six for much of the season and seen as one of many clubs capable of landing a playoff spot. Now, however, Hull are more concerned with what’s below them.
A run of five defeats in six league games mean they are now closer to the relegation zone than they are sixth place. Granted, with a 10 point cushion it would still be a big surprise if they are to go down but it’s not a battle that Grant McCann will want any part of.

One of the other concerns for McCann is the loss of Jarrod Bowen in the January transfer window. Bowen had scored 16 league goals before moving to West Ham and to put that in some sort of context, Hull’s current top scorer is Tom Eaves on four goals.
That just increases the anxiety that Hull could yet creep closer to the bottom three and dragged into a relegation battle.

Swansea City Preview – Will Swans pick up their first away win in five to move closer to the top six?

Whilst their hosts on Friday have fallen out the playoff picture Swansea are very much still hoping to be one of the team’s competing beyond the regular season. Mark Cooper’s men are not in the best of form themselves with only one win in six league matches resulting in them being seven points adrift of Preston in sixth spot.

Games such as Tuesday when drawing at home to QPR could well be matches where they look back on and rue missed opportunities. Coupled with a defeat to Derby last weekend it means the Swans have taken just one point from two home games.

Because of their failures at home this past week the pressure on Swansea to pick up a win in this game is increased. Cooper has them playing well on their travels and difficult to beat with just three away losses in the league this season. Only West Brom have lost fewer than them on the road so far.

Just as Hull are finding now following Bowen’s sale the biggest issue for Swansea is a lack of cutting edge. The 37 goals they have scored is the the lowest number out the top 15 clubs. Indeed, only Middlesbrough and Wigan have scored fewer than Swansea in this year’s Championship.

Hull City vs Swansea City Betting Advice

You sense that a win for Hull would bring a huge sigh of relief for all at the club can halt their descent before it gets critical. Swansea do not inspire a huge amount of confidence, either, of course, with wins hard to come by for Cooper’s men as well.
This game is the reverse of the first match of the season when Swansea edged the three points thanks to a 2-1 at home.

Key Facts – Hull City vs Swansea City Betting Tip

  • No team has drawn fewer home games than Hull this season with just two in the league
  • Leaders West Brom are the only team who have lost less away matches than Swansea
  • It was a 2-1 win for Swansea when the sides met on the opening day of the season

Neither team are carrying a huge attacking threat at the moment and with both low on confidence I’m leaning towards a low-scoring contest. Eight of Swansea’s last 12 league games have went under 2.5. When you combine that with Hull’s struggles in front of goal (three in six games), it looks to be another solid betting selection on Friday.
