Hungary and Uruguay meet in an international friendly, with the Magyars looking to get ready for their crunch Euro 2020 qualifying match against Wales a few days later.
Hungary Prediction – Can Magyars Land Positive Result?
Hungary were able to qualify for the European Championship in 2016, the first time they had made it to the final stage since 1972 when they actually finished in fourth place in Germany.
The Magyars have a decent chance of making it to Euro 2020 after a reasonable qualifying campaign which has seen them win four and lose three of their seven games. They’ve been especially strong on home soil, beating Croatia, Wales and Azerbaijan.
The team will head to Cardiff on 19 November for a crunch clash with Wales which will effectively determine which side goes through to the finals and manager Marco Rossi will be looking to use this friendly clash to prepare for the more important encounter a few days later.
Rossi held a series of club positions in Hungary before being given the national team manager’s job and he can call upon a selection of talented players including Ádám Szalai who leads the line for German club Mainz at domestic level.
Szalai is a reliable player for his country and the 31-year-old has managed 20 goals in 59 international appearances, with captain Balázs Dzsudzsák the most experienced campaigner in the group having recently amassed 100 appearances for Hungary.
However, recent form has not been strong and that must be a concern right now for the Magyars who are hoping that Uruguay will give them a stern test before they try and tame Gareth Bale and the rest of the Welsh team in Cardiff.
Before beating Azerbaijan on 13 October, there were three consecutive defeats for the Hungarians. Firstly, Montenegro beat them in a friendly in Podgorica, then there were consecutive Euro 2020 qualifying reverses against Slovakia and Croatia.
Ultimately, they are outsiders for this game for a reason and they will be up against one of the best teams in the world, with Uruguay having demonstrated at recent international tournaments that they are force with which to be reckoned.
In addition, Rossi won’t want his players to be overworked before the clash with Wales and he’s likely to use the match to trial out a few fringe players before working out the best team for that crunch clash in Cardiff.
Uruguay Prediction – La Celeste Strong Favourites to Win
Uruguay continued to be coached by the wily Oscar Tabarez, with the 72-year-old a legend in this country thanks to his achievements with La Celeste and he has a strong squad in Budapest for this friendly encounter.
Incredibly, Tabarez has held this position since 2006 and is responsible for creating a team who have gone from non-qualifiers in the year that he took charge to a side who have made it to the last 16 in each of the past three World Cups.
Uruguay are now regarded as one of the best teams in South America and consequently the world, with La Celeste now playing a friendly match in Budapest before they clash with Argentina a few days later and they’ll want to give a good account of themselves.
