Hungary welcome San Marino to the Puskas Arena in Budapest for a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday night. The Hungarians cannot qualify directly after a poor run of results in recent months, but Marco Rossi’s men can still make the play-offs. No less than three points will do for the hosts against the minnows. In truth, this should be a walk in the park for the Magyars. Check out our betting preview, with the latest odds and top tips.

Hungary Preview – Easy win on home turf for Rossi’s team?

Hungary have given themselves a huge mountain to climb in terms of World Cup qualification. Marco Rossi’s men are in fourth place in Group I on just 11 points after three wins, three defeats and two draws. They cannot qualify to Qatar directly, though they can still make the play-offs by sneaking into second.

Having caught the eye in the summer with some superb displays against the likes of Portugal, Germany and France at UEFA Euro 2020, the Hungarians have failed to kick on in the World Cup qualifiers. Since the campaign restarted in September, Hungary have taken just four points from a possible 15.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No
1/6

Hungary did manage to hold in-form England to a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium in their last match on 12th October. They should follow that up with an easy home win here.

San Marino Preview – Another heavy defeat for Varrella’s side?

San Marino have had another miserable qualifying campaign. Franco Varrella’s side have suffered eight defeats out of eight, scoring just one goal in the process. At the other end, they have shipped a staggering 32.

Against fellow minnows Andorra, San Marino have lost home and away. They were beaten 2-0 in September, with Marc Vales scoring both goals in Andorra la Vella. San Marino then lost 3-0 to the Andorrans in Serravalle in October.

This will no doubt be another tough day at the office for the nation currently ranked 210th in the world, which is the lowest place possible. They could suffer anther big defeat in Budapest.

Hungary vs San Marino Betting Advice

Hungary cruised to a 3-0 win when these two nations locked horns in the reverse Group I fixture back in March. However, two of their three goals came from the penalty spot.

Hungary have won all five of the previous meetings, scoring 22 and conceding zero. In October 2010, the Hungarians beat San Marino 8-0 in a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier.

Key Facts – Hungary vs San Marino Betting Tip

  • Hungary have taken just four points from the last 15 on offer
  • San Marino have lost eight out of eight in Group I and conceded 32 goals
  • The Hungarians drew at Wembley last time out

Hungary will take plenty of belief from their display at Wembley last month. If the same team turns up in this one, we could see a cricket score in Budapest. Put some money on Hungary to win -3 at 4/7.

San Marino’s one and only goal in Group I came in a 7-1 defeat to Poland in September when Nicola Nanni netted in Serravalle. We cannot see them scoring in this one, so back Hungary to win to nil at 1/6.
