Iceland – Can Iceland stay in touch with top two in Group h?

Iceland have made a mixed start to their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign as they’ve registered a 2-0 win away at whipping boys, Andorra, but found themselves on the end of a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Group H favourites, France, last time out in Group H.

After a disappointing period for the hosts which saw Iceland endure a wretched spell of 12 matches without a win, with 9 defeats within this sequence, Iceland have since made a recovery in recent times as they’ve lost just 1 of their last 5 matches in all competitions.

That loss was to the aforementioned World Cup champions, France, but draws with Qatar, Sweden and Estonia along with the win over Andorra has helped steady the ship and should bring some much-needed confidence to the hosts as they prepare for the visit of Albania on Friday night.

Recent results at home though continue to elude Iceland as they’re without a win from their last 8 matches on home turf in all competitions, but they’ve won the last two meetings against tonight’s opponents, Albania, so they’ll fancy their chances of grabbing an important three points here.

Albania Prediction – Can Poland open up a lead at the top of Group G?

Albania sit in 3rd spot in Group H and have edged out Iceland by virtue of a slightly better goal difference as they make their way over to Reykjavik for this crucial group encounter with Iceland who they’ve lost their last two meetings to.

Albania have produced mixed returns in recent times as the visitors have recorded wins against Israel, Wales and Andorra, but losses to Scotland (home and away), Israel and Turkey have outweighed the positives for the Albanians.

That said, although the visitors were handed a 2-0 defeat at home by the aforementioned Turkey in their opening match in Group H, they did bounce back with a 3-0 win away at Andorra, so they may well fancy their chances of getting something from their trip to Reykjavik this Friday night.

With just 3 wins from their last 9 away matches though, Albania might just struggle to keep pace with Iceland who will be keen to set the record straight on home turf tonight.
