Monday night brings us a League A clash in Group 2 where Iceland take on Switzerland as the betting tips continue in the Nations League.
Following back-to-back defeats to Switzerland 6-0 away and a 3-0 loss at home to Belgium, Iceland sit bottom of the group with no points and are now in desperate need of a result on Monday night in their return fixture against Switzerland.
Iceland find themselves in somewhat of a mess and they haven’t looked the same side since former manager Heimir Hallgrimsson left his post after the World Cup. In truth, the cracks were starting to appear even before the World Cup as the IOcelanders looked a shadow of the side that were so successful in the last European championships.
However, on a positive note, although they’re without a win from their last six matches at home (losing 5 of these), the hosts have scored in 14 of their last 16 home matches in all competitions. They have to go on the front foot here as well to get a result, so the likes of Gudundsson, Sigurdsson and Finnbogason need to step up here.
Switzerland sit in second place and three points behind Belgium as they prepare for their trip to Reykjavik having trounced Monday night’s opponents, Iceland, 6-0 in Basel but then losing 2-1 away at Group 2 leaders, Belgium.
The Swiss will look to take another three points off Iceland on Monday night in order to keep pace with Belgium, but a win here would also virtually seal Iceland’s relegation fate, so the visitors should be well motivated to also get a result in this one.
Away from home though, Switzerland have lost their last three on the trot with losses against Sweden, England and Belgium, but they’ve managed to score in 12 of their last 15 matches on their travels.
The likes of Xhaka, Seferovic and the rejuvenated Shaqiri should also be able to create a few goalscoring opportunities for the visitors on Monday night.
