Iceland Preview – Can the Icelanders pick up a much-needed win?
Iceland’s ‘golden era’ looks to be over, as the Icelanders have picked up just one win from six qualifiers. Arnar Vidarsson’s side are currently second from bottom in the group, seven points away from second place.
After defeats to Germany and Armenia, Iceland finally got off the mark with a convincing win in Liechtenstein in game three. Goals from Birkir Saevarsson, Birkir Bjarnason, Victor Palsson and Runar Sigurjonsson earned Iceland a 4-1 victory at Rheinpark Stadion.
Since the win in Vaduz, Iceland have gone on to take just one point from a possible nine. They lost to Romania and drew with North Macedonia before crashing to a heavy 4-0 home loss to Germany last time out. Can they bounce back with a positive result here?
Armenia Preview – Will the Armenians move on to 14 points?
Joaquin Caparros’ Armenia have been the surprise package in World Cup qualifying Group J so far. They have picked up three wins, drawn twice and suffered just one defeat. The Armenians start this batch of qualifiers in second place.
Armenia picked up victories over Liechtenstein, Iceland and Romania in their opening three games. However, they have taken just two points from their following three qualifiers. After a thumping 6-0 loss to the Germans in Stuttgart, Armenia only managed a 1-1 home draw with Liechtenstein in their last outing.

Iceland vs Armenia Betting Advice
Armenia claimed all three points when these two nations locked horns at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan back in March. Second-half goals from Tigran Barseghyan and Khoren Bayramyan were enough for a 2-0 home win. Iceland won the previous two meetings by the same scoreline.
Key Facts – Iceland vs Armenia Betting Tip
- Armenia won the reverse game on their own patch
- The Armenians have suffered just one qualifying loss so far
- Iceland have lost five of their opening six Group J matches
Iceland have given themselves a huge mountain to climb in terms of nicking second spot, but three points on Friday would put them just four behind Armenia with three games to play.
After the embarrassing loss to Germany last time out, Vidarsson will be looking for a big response from his players. We like the look of 4/1 for the home victory and both teams to score.
Former Aston Villa man Birkir Bjarnason netted in the win in Vaduz back in March. The 33-year-old is priced at 9/2 to score in an Iceland victory on Friday.
