Juventus wrapped up their eighth consecutive Serie A title last weekend but the Derby d’Italia is one of the most significant fixtures in the Italian calendar and hosts Inter are looking to secure a top four finish and Champions League qualification.

Inter Milan Preview

It may not have been the result they would have wanted against Roma last week but Inter would probably have been content with a draw having gone a goal behind. The point keeps them well placed in third spot and maintains their five points lead over city rivals Milan who are a place below them. The big games continue to come for Luciano Spalletti’s team and they do not get much bigger than at home to Juventus. The rivalry with AC is clearly top of the pile for Milanese football fans but for Serie A as a whole this is traditionally the biggest game featuring Italy’s two most traditionally successful teams. That brings with it it’s own prestige and pressure but Spalletti and his players will only be caring about getting a win that would put them within touching distance of securing a top four finish. Whilst it was a welcome enough point last week in the circumstances it also meant it’s just two wins in their last seven games now for Inter whose form has tailed of significantly having won seven straight games before that – all of which were achieved without conceding a goal. Without a doubt this is their most difficult game left of Inter’s season and one they will be desperate to prevail in.

Key-Facts – Inter Milan v Juventus

  • Juventus wrapped up their eighth consecutive Serie A title last week and are 20 points clear at the top
  • Inter are within touching distance of a top four finish but have managed just two wins in their last seven
  • This is a clash between the two top defences in Italy and five of the last seven league meetings have went under 2.5 goals

Juventus Preview

For most teams, clinching a league title – especially an eighth consecutive league title – would be the cause for mass celebrations but there’s no doubt that Juventus’ were somewhat underplayed last week having defeated Fiorentina. Only days previous to that win, Juve were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League which, we know, is essentially their ultimate aim these days. Cristiano Ronaldo was not brought in for huge money last summer to assert further authority over their Serie A rivals, he was purchased to help them conquer Europe so going out to Ajax at home would have been a massive disappointment. Having also been knocked out of the Coppa Italia earlier in the campaign the only commitment Juventus now have is finishing the league season strongly and extending their lead at the top of the table. Saturday’s game is arguably the perfect fixture for them due to the high-profile nature of their rivalry with Inter as it will be a big stage for their stars to perform on. Going forward there is a lot of doubt about what this Juventus team will look like with uncertainty over the future of coach Max Allegri and some of their key players. It’s set to be an interesting summer in Turin.

Inter Milan v Juventus Betting Advice

There may only be two places between Inter and Juventus in the table but that equates to 26 points which is a seismic gap all things considered. Juve are the standard that all others, including Inter, strive to in Italy but it looks like being a long time before the Milan club will add to their 18 league titles. The meeting between the two earlier in the season ended in a very narrow 1-0 win for Juventus and all the signs are that we’re in for another close contest.

This fixture last season proved to be a classic as Juventus won 3-2 at the San Siro to set them on their way for the title but it would be a big surprise if we seen five goals in Saturday’s game. Just one of Inter’s last nine home games have seen three or more goals scored and this is a contest between the two best defences in Serie A. Five of the last seven meetings in Serie A have went under 2.5 goals and just as it was in Turin back in December, this is set to be another tight one.
