Inter Milan Preview – Will Inter follow up weekend derby win and continue setting the pace in Italy?

Antonio Conte’s arrival at the San Siro this summer instantly meant there would be talk of a potential title challenge. Inter, as a club, have been in the wilderness in terms of Serie A since their last title success in 2010. Since then they have had to sit and watch as Juventus have cleaned up in Italy whilst their recent resurgence has comprised a couple of top four finishes and qualifying for the Champions League. Even then they were a full 21 points behind the champions last season. That gives you an indication of the gap that needs bridge for them to finish top this season. Conte is a manager who delivers success quickly, however, and has been tasked with winning Serie A within two years. His team could barely have made a better start to the new season, at least in terms of results.

Saturday’s 2-0 win over rivals AC was their fourth straight win to open the new campaign. They are the only team to have a 100% record in the league and it’s been a typically Conte start to proceedings. Critics will points to the fact that they have not been overly impressive in some of their games but they have been effective. Nine goals scored and one conceded is the hallmark of their coach and whilst others may be more entertaining, there will be few who are more resilient and steadfast in their efforts.

Lazio Preview – Can Inzaghi’s men be the first team to take points off leaders this season?

Simone Inzaghi would have been disappointed with his side’s eighth place finish last season such is the quality that exists in his Lazio squad. The club did manage success in the Coppa Italia and Inzaghi’s overall performance had him mentioned as a possible replacement to Max Allegri at Juventus. That never materalised, however, and he was gearing up for another crack at qualifying Lazio for the group stages of the Champions League. There have been frustrations in some of their matches already this season but they currently sit in fifth spot, one point behind their rivals Roma.

Sunday’s 2-0 win at home to Parma was a big result for Lazio following a couple of really disappointing results and performances. Having started the season in impressive fashion with a 3-0 win away to Sampdoria, there was real excitement as to what this team could be capable of this year. They were also the better team in the 1-1 draw with Roma. However, two away defeats in a row against SPAL and Cluj – the latter coming in Europe – were very disappointing. It made Sunday’s game a must win before traveling to face the league leaders in tomorrow’s game. And they duly obliged.

Key-Facts – Inter Milan v Lazio

  • Life under Antonio Conte has started well for Inter who have a 100% record after four games and sit top of Serie A
  • Lazio would have been disappointed losing back to back away games so Sunday’s win over Parma was a really important result
  • This is a fixture that has recently when in favour of the away team, with the last home win coming over three years ago

Inter Milan v Lazio Betting Advice

It’s still very early in the season but Conte knows the importance of getting a lead and keeping it. He builds his teams around that philosophy both in individual games and also the title race. Two points (at the time of writing) may not seem much but it’s the first time in a while they have been above Juventus in the table. For the visitors, they know any sort of result here would be a good one and they are undefeated in their last four away games against Inter.

I was very impressed with how Inter controlled and dominated Milan in the derby game Lazio do have a good recent record here but their last two away games have been disappointing. The home team are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment and they can make it five straight league wins.
