Inter Preview – Can Conte mastermind a win over his old team and ensure Inter stay top of the pile?

Last weekend’s win away to Sampdoria means it’s now six wins from six in the league for Antonio Conte’s new look Inter Milan. They continue to set the pace at the top of Serie A and have a two point lead over his former club Juventus. Conte will be the first to point out how early in the season it is but there’s no doubt that his team have already adapted to well to the demands of his coaching and style of play. That’s indicated not only in the results but also the performances of his big name signings who have come to the club under something of a cloud. Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez have something to prove this season and they are showing signs they are up to that challenge.

There’s no doubt that Conte would have been hoping for a better start in the Champions League. Two games in and only one point to show for it means they’re up against it in terms of qualification. However, if you were to ask the club’s supporters then the majority would sacrifice their European ambitions for ending Juve’s dominance domestically. It’s been a great start with regards to that but this is the acid test. If Inter can get all three points it would really get them believing this squad is capable of going all the way.

Juventus Preview – Can Sarri’s new look Juventus show their class and hand Inter their first defeat?

There was some surprise when Maurizio Sarri was chosen as Juventus’ coach replace Max Allegri and you have to say it’s still a work in progress on what we’ve seen so far. The only points they have dropped in the league was a goalless draw away to Fiorentina but some of the performances have not been as dominant as we have come to expect, until the last couple weeks that is. The inclusion of Paulo Dybala in attack has undoubtedly made a difference to the balance of the team and they look better for it. Sarri has come in for criticism in the past for his stubbornness but he may be realising that he has to be more adaptable in this job.

The champions come into this massive game having won four straight. The home wins over SPAL and Bayer Leverkusen may not seem all that remarkable but they were more controlled performances. Contrast that to the 4-3 win at home to Napoli earlier in the campaign and it’s a sign this team is growing. Visiting an inform Inter side is a much different test to SPAL at home, of course.

Inter have kept four clean sheets in their six league games but this will be their biggest challenge yet.
