A tussle between fifth placed Internacional and mid-table Botafogo is up next as my betting tips continue in the Brazilian top flight for this Sunday afternoon’s clash at the Estádio José Pinheiro Borda in Porto Alegre.
There should be plenty of incentive for today’s hosts here following last week’s slip-up away at lowly America Mineiro as Internacional suffered an unexpected 2-1 defeat. This loss ended an impressive 10-match unbeaten sequence which had lifted them up into Copa Libertadores reckoning, but they’ll be looking to bounce back today.
Internacional still remain unbeaten on home turf this season with a solid looking home record of 5-2-0 11/2 under their belts, and this includes five clean sheets courtesy of a mean defensive unit that’s been well marshalled by Cuesta at the back.
The hosts have won four of their last five at home with wins over Chapecoense, Corinthians, Vasco da Gama and Ceara, while Lopez, Patrick and Damiao will look to create havoc in the final third.
Botafogo have produced mixed results in recent weeks as they’ve gained wins over Atletico PR and Chapecoense (both at home), but have also fallen foul to defeats against Corinthians and Flamengo (both on their travels) – which could be significant.
The visitors also still remain undefeated at their Estádio Nilton Santos, but results away from home have prevented Botafogo from climbing further up the table as they’ve managed just one win on the road all season to date.
An away record of 1-2-5 8/14 includes just the one success that was recorded at Vasco da Gama, but recent losses at Sao Paulo, Corinthians and Flamengo suggest this trip to Internacional may be out of their reach too.
