There’s a double header in the Scottish Championship on Friday with the first game kicking off in the Highlands. Inverness will be looking for a second home win of the campaign against second placed Morton.

Inverness Preview – Can Caley Thistle grab second home win of the season and go level on points with opponents?

John Robertson’s men had a productive enough season in the last campaign, reaching the semi-final of the Scottish Cup and the same stage of the Championship promotion playoffs. It was defeat on both occasions, though, and that will have given them increased determination for some success this season. It’s been a steady rather than spectacular start to the new campaign as Thistle have registered a win, a draw and a loss so far. The defeat was a heavy one, however, coming on the opening day when thumped 4-1 at the hands of Dundee United. Robertson’s men have recovered well from that – defeating Arbroath at home before a hard-fought draw against the other Dundee club.

It was a third place finish for Thistle last season and that is going to be their aim again. The more optimistic supporters may think they have a chance of the title, though, in what looks like an open division. Their biggest issue last season was the number of draws they accrued, sharing the points in 14 games with eight of those coming at home. It makes games such as this one on Friday so important and a chance for them to continue picking up three points at home.

Greenock Morton Preview – Can Morton build on incredible comeback last week and get another victory?

Morton were one of those teams who were in Championship no mans land last season. There was no real chance of promotion or being relegated. That was something of an achievement  considering the upheaval at the club over the season. David Hopkin has been given the job over the summer and he has recent experience of being promoted from the Championship when manager of Livingston a couple of years ago. That was seen as a surprise at the time and it would certainly be a shock should he lead his current employers to the top flight. It’s been a really positive start to the league campaign, however, with six points from their first three matches. Like their opponents on Friday, it was a poor opening weekend as they lost 4-2 to Ayr United.

Since then they have thumped Alloa 4-1 and then defeated Partick Thistle 3-2 in back-to-back home games. The latter of those wins came in incredible fashion when going 2-0 in the first half only to pull off a sensational comeback in the second 45 minutes. Hopkin would have been delighted with the desire and attitude that his players showed but he knows they will have to defend much better – especially on their travels. Across both league and cup, Morton have conceded 15 goals in their last five.

Key-Facts – Inverness v Greenock Morton

  • Inverness have recovered well having lost heavily on the opening game of the season – taking four points from their next two
  • Morton produced an incredible comeback last week to come from two goals down and win 3-2 at home to Partick Thistle for the second win in three
  • All eight of Morton’s games this season have had at least three goals in them

Inverness v Greenock Morton Betting Advice

This fixture has the potential to be a really entertaining encounter with both teams keen for three points to continue what have been a positive couple of weeks. Inverness’ approach has been much more conventional and pragmatic since losing heavily to Dundee United. Four points from a possible six have been won from grinding out results. It’s been the complete opposite for Morton who have just been involved in some incredibly high-scoring games since the beginning of the season. Hopkin will definitely be looking for a better defensive performance but there’s little to suggest that will be the case.

This is the first of two meetings in eight days as the teams will face each other again in the Challenge Cup next Saturday. The onus will be on the home side to force the play but what we know of Morton is they are capable of scoring and conceding plenty of goals. As such, over 2.5 goals looks a standout bet in the Highlands.
