It’s a top of the table clash in the Championship on Friday as Inverness attempt to find a win which would take them above Kilmarnock.

Inverness CT Preview – Can Caley get back to winning ways at home?

Whilst Caley Thistle remain just a point off top spot, it’s been a trying period for Billy Dodds and his players. One win in their last six Championship games and eight in all competitions is not the sort of form which inspires confidence as they prepare for the visit of the leaders. That win came in their most recent league game which seen them beat Queen of the South 2-1 away from home. Since that match they have drawn 1-1 at home to Greenock in the third round of the Scottish Cup (replay to come) before losing out on penalties to Raith Rovers in the quarter finals of the Challenge Cup.

The games continue to come thick and fast for Inverness and they know that a win here could spark their season back into life.

What will be of most concern for Dodds is the drop off in their home form. Having started the league campaign with five straight wins at home, Caley have since picked lost three and drawn once. That includes consecutive home losses in the Championship to Arbroath and Dunfermilne.

Despite the recent slump they do have the second best home defensive record in the Championship conceding only five goals in seven games and that will give them some confidence coming into this match. However the goalless draw after 90 minutes against Raith in midweek is their first clean sheet in five matches.

Kilmarnock Preview – Will Killie’s excellent away form guide them to all three points here?

Kilmarnock continue to just do enough to maintain their place at the top of the Scottish Championship. Now it’s just courtesy of a better goal difference over Raith Rovers – and just one goal at that. Tommy Wright’s men lost at home to Arbroath in their last league game having also went down to Partick Thistle at Rugby Park at the beginning of last month.

Wright will be pleased with how his team bounced back after those disappointments, though, with back to back wins in cup competition. Killie edged past Queens Park 1-0 in the Scottish Cup before a 3-2 success against Hamilton to make it into the last four of the Challenge Cup.

Their away form remains their key strength. Kilmarnock’s only defeat on the road so far this season came against Hibernian in the League Cup. They have won eight and drawn two of their other 10 games on the road. That is certainly an encouraging sign as they prepare for this game.

Although he’s not scored in his last three matches Olly Shaw is certainly making a difference now in attack. A big summer signing from Ross County with experience of the Scottish Premiership, Shaw has seven goals in his last 10 matches.

Inverness vs Kilmarnock Betting Advice

It looks like the Championship title race is going to be the most competitive in years. Kilmarnock remain favourites but with two points separating five teams and them losing to each of the other four already this season, they are not going to be able to shake off the attention of at least a couple of them.

Inverness took the spoils when the teams met in Ayrshire earlier in the campaign but you sense that this will suit Killie better. Their away record is excellent and have a style of play which suits them on the road.

Key Facts – Inverness vs Kilmarnock Betting Tip

  • Inverness have one just one of their last five league matches
  • Kilmarnock are unbeaten on their travels in the Championship with five wins and two draws
  • Caley were 1-0 winners when the sides met at Rugby Park earlier this season

It will likely be a low-scoring affair but one which I fancy the visitors to get a win and extend their lead at the top pending the rest of this weekend’s fixtures.
